vernonls's Full Review: Black & Decker 12 Amp 2-Speed Electric Leaf Hog Bl...
I purchased this product in Sept 2008 (although my product has a variable speed dial instead of a 2 speed switch) and have used it now for 4 months.
I was initially very skeptical about the claims of this product because I have found Black & Decker to be a low quality brand, but am well pleased after my initial use. It replaced my 10 year old Sears leaf vacuum.
It really sucks up the leaves and it shreds them as well and does it so well that you don't have to empty the bag very often. The blower works well also. It even picks up twigs and acorns.
As usual the manual sucks and assembling it was an adventure. I nearly threw away to the plastic piece that closes the bag because it was not identified. The first few times it is difficult to figure out how to switch it from vacuuming to blowing because of the assembly required. Also, don't lose track of the small pieces when you change modes.
It requires a lot of hand/arm strength to remove and install the bag closure. I sprayed my bag and closure with silicon spray and it got a lot easier. Also, I found that the first few times it was difficult to assemble & remove the bag and nozzle from the main power unit. Spraying them with silicon spray also helped that a lot.
It does a great job of shredding/mulching the leaves so I don't have to empty the bag nearly as often as my old Sears unit. It certainly beats using a rake and scoop to pick up leaves.
I would buy this product again, but it is too early to tell if the long term quality is what it should be.
