| colmmoo's Full Review: Black & Decker 12" Automatic Feed Trimmer / Grass ... |
We bought this automatic feed trimmer a year ago and it's still working well. It's not very heavy, however, you need to adjust the angle of the handle to suit your height. This is easy to do using the button adjustment near the handle.
This trimmer does a superb job at getting rid of grass and weeds in areas that are hard to reach, grass in between flagstones and weeds in small areas. No bumping required, and the string feeds automatically. Changing the string spool isn't very difficult - just pop it in place and pull the string through the eyelet (most important thing) so it holds in place.
Here are some negatives. This trimmer supposedly becomes an edger when you rotate the bottom 180 degrees. It's not difficult to rotate it at all, but I found that when I used it as an edger, it wasn't very good as a real edger. Stuff flies all over the place, sometimes hitting me in the shin, even with the shield at the bottom. Also, the trimmer is quite loud - it's tolerable to some people, but I always use earplugs when using it. Changing the spool can be a pain if you don't figure out that the string needs to be pulled through the little hole (eyelet); otherwise, it's easy. Lastly, the sidewalk guide piece flies out if improperly installed.
