| ssankar1's Full Review: Black & Decker 12" Automatic Feed Trimmer / Grass ... |
I had bought a Sears brand Gas weed whacker 5 years ago. It was good the first year. Then it started acting up. I have been messing with the fuel-oil mixture, spark plug etc. This year it refused to start and I decided to go electric.
I had to make up my mind about a corded or a cordless model. I decided against the cordless models since I read that they were not all that powerful and did not hold the charge well.
I did not want to spend a whole lot of money either. I looked at this black and decker beauty and my mind was made up.
Now, think about it. For less than $50, I get a 12" trimmer, no bump auto line feed and a twist and edge feature too.. You can't beat that. So I bought it and within the next hour out it to use.
Assembly was a snap. Literally. Snap the guard on and screw the shield and you are done. I had to use my 100' extension cord, but it is no biggie. The cord minder feature is awesome. It prevents the cord from slipping away.
I started trimming the weeds. It started decimating them. It was better than the gas powered Sears model. Hey... I don't have to bump the get the line out anymore! I was soon getting rid of all kinds of weeds and the lawn was beginning to shape up.
Swinging the trimmer was no hassle since it was light weight. This is also one reason that I did not go the cordless way.
OOPS! Now what! I used up the spool... I agree that had a lot of weeds to whack, but the 30' spool just seemed to melt away.
I plug in the new spool and after some trimming it was time to edge. This is simply the best part of this tool. In the past, I have had to go and rent a trimmer for $8 and hour, fuel it up and struggle with the blade trying to eat up my drive way!. Now, with a twist of the shaft, I was ready to edge. The guide resting on the concrete guided my path in a straight line. It was a little difficult to get used to, but once I did... I was edging like a pro. The results after 15 mts were astounding. Then I realized, that for the money I can save from renting that darn edger, I can buy more spools.... What a deal!
I also recently learnt that I can get a standard 0.065" line and carefully wind it in the empty spool and save big bucks. That makes this edger better than free!
