mikeclarke_ca's Full Review: Black & Decker 19" Electric Lawnhog Mulching Mower
It mows fairly well, except the motor & blade lack enough power to adequately lift very thick, matted or damp grass on the first pass. The cord, of course, is an issue, but it beats having to worry about whether there's enough charge left in batteries.
Echoing the experiences of a couple of other reviewers, ours went up in smoke after about the 3rd use. Since Home Depot won't accept warranty returns after 30 days (I had it for 40 days), I had to bring it to an authorized repair shop. The technician was familiar with the problem; the motor's magnets can fracture, break apart, and cause the motor to seize in one of two ways: 1)A blade strike can cause the armature to strike the magnets. 2)Adhesive used to hold the magnets in place weakens and the magnets break apart.
Since motors are currently 90% backlogged in Canada, this may be a common problem for this model.
