Pros: Relatively light, relatively quiet, efficient

The Bottom Line: Get the Leaf Hog but extend the leaf bag strap.

| chris-nelson's Full Review: Black & Decker Bv2500 Leaf Hog Vac 'N' Mulch Blowe... |
I'm generally happy with my Leaf Hog purchase but one thing is an on-going problem: the leaf bag is designed for short, right-handed users but I'm 6' tall and left handed. The shoulder strap on the leaf bag is about 3 inches too short for me to stand fully upright and have the mouth of the vacuum be close enough to the ground to actually suck leaves, etc.
Also, the bag attaches to the body of the vacuum at an angle. For a right-handed user (with the vacuum in their right hand, steered by their left), the tool and bag hug your right side, the tool in front -- pointing a bit to the left -- and the bag behind you. For a left-handed user like me, with the tool on my left, pointing a bit to my right, the bag sticks out to my right and tends to pull the shoulder strap off my shoulder.
The vacuum picks up leaves (of course), beechnuts, small acorns, and acorn caps. I haven't had a chance to try it on maple "helicopters". The box says it picks up pine cones but I've had little success. It doesn't even move small (1/2") crab apples.
The blower is supposed to be 2-speed but that's accomplished in a way that makes the device slow and loud or fast and quiet: there's a baffle that partially blocks the blower tube to restrict and slow air flow. I just use it on high all the time and it's OK.
The vacuum and blower attachments are easy to switch and there is a safety interlock so that the impeller can't be run without one of the attachments on and shielding it from fingers, clothing, etc.
