Pros:Very versatile, durable and well built.
Cons:There are a lot of pinching points on this when you open it up.
The Bottom Line: You will not be dissatisfied with this product, plus you should never have to use the warranty.
My wife purchased my Black and Decker work mate for me for Christmas. She saw that I did not have a vise on my regular work bench. When she saw that I was trying to hold everything down with a pair of vise grips and c-clamps, that is when she went out and bought this work bench for me. It was not real heavy for her to carry by herself, but it was big and bulky and to hard to handle, so she had to ask her son if he would give her a hand. She purchased it from Home Depot, for $75.00. But you can usually find these at any home-improvement store.

This particular work mate is a little sturdier than most. It has an extra removable center panel, this gives a larger work area.. This is one of the differences from the smaller work mate 225. This has an extra large work area, and that is 29" x 21". This also has the addition of a one handed clamping system. The total weight of this work mate is approximately 25 pounds, and it stands 30" tall when opened up all the way . When you first get this home it is folded up and is not hard to figure out how to stand it up. There are four legs that will fold in underneath the body to make for a convenient package to carry. The top part of this workmate is made up of a very hard I wood, and the bottom part including the legs is made up of a heavyweight steel construction. The top work area also has a bunch of strategically placed holes to put the clamping pegs in, these come included in your package.
I have found since I have gotten this new one that this has come in very handy as a workbench. The nice feature about this one is the fact that unlike the 225 workmate where you have to use two hands and crank in both handles at the same time to get them to go in evenly. The 425 model has a system that has a clutch design that allows you to engage it, and crank with one of them and they will both go in together at the same time. The other nice feature about this one over the other one is the fact that there is a removable center panel that will give you more area if you needed to by just removing it. Another feature is that this will hold quite a bit of weight 550 pounds to be exact. When you open the box and pull this workmate out, make sure that you get the four swivel pegs that come with this.
My wife purchased this for $75 from Home Depot. But I have seen these at any home-improvement store for about the same price.
I bet you were wondering how durable this is and how sturdy it is. Well, I can tell you this, that I have stacked lots of lumber on top of it. Plus, when I go to folded it up, and put it away, I have banged it and drop it, and when I stood it up, it to has fallen over several times. There has been no damage to it in any way shape or form. I have basically put this through the ringer and gave it a good testing. It has passed all tests that I could put it through.
User Friendly .
If you were wondering how easy this is to use it is basically very simple. All you do when you get it out of the box is first pulled the legs out and pop them in a place. Then set them up right on the legs, with your hands grasping each side. There is a little lever that you will depressed with your fingers and pull upward. Thats basically all there is to it, this is very user friendly and just about anybody can use it. I have used this as a sawhorse of vise for holding a project while cutting it or painting or basically just as a tool bench. This will basically hold anything that you want it to.
Just like all the other workmate work benches out there on the market, they have a warranty for two years from the date of purchase. One of the important things that I have noticed about all these kinds of benches is the fact that you will probably need your proof of purchase if something goes wrong. But, as of yet. I dont foresee any problems with this workbench.
Overall Conclusion .
I would highly recommend this for any homeowner, that needs to space in his workshop. This comes in handy for those projects that you finish and you could put your table away in the corner. The only reason that my wife purchased this one was the fact that surface area on the worktable is larger than what I had and the independent cranking system on the front. Plus the price helped, you can find this, as I said from $75-$90 in any home-improvement store.
