| thorswolf's Full Review: Black & Decker Cordless Trimmer / Edger Cst1000 |
I bought the CTS1000 to go along with the CMM1000 mower I purchased last year (see review).
The CTS1000 is easy to assemble and has the advantage of coming with an all-in-one charger/storage bracket. I finished my garage in pegboard and particle board for storage, so attaching it to the wall was a snap. I can see where someone who has sheetrock in their garage would have some difficulty hanging this, unless they were sure they were actually hitting a stud or using big wall anchors like the EZ anchors. For me, the bracket is a charm because it puts the trimmer out of the way while ensuring I always have a maximum charge. Furthermore, it allowed me to store the trimmer out of reach of the little one.
The operation of this product is also a breeze. A built in safety feature is a two-step start where you have to press a slider forward and pull the trigger to start the trimmer. Little hands aren't large enough to do this. The trimmer has good speed and has an auto-feed mechanism instead of a pound-on-the-ground feed. I'm always a little wary of any "auto" mechanism because they tend to jam, but I've been using this thing for a year with no problems. The feed is just right.
Another useful feature is the rotating head which allows the trimmer to become an edger. There is a handy flip up guide that allows you to maintain an even cutting height while in edging. Be careful with this because the unit has no brake at shut-off and its possible to whack your fingers while rotating the head back and storing the edging guide.
I don't know how long the charge lasts as I've actually never run out of juice. I don't have a huge lot, standard suburban 40x100 lot, so there's not much work. This trimmer is a great light duty tool, and has the advantage of not requiring gas or an extension cord.
