| smjackson's Full Review: Black & Decker Cordless Trimmer / Edger Cst1000 |
Having used a gas trimmer/edger for years, I was so excited when my husband purchased this lightweight, cordless trimmer! Finally, I could work in the yard without injuring my back!
This trimmer/edger is very lightweight, has no cord to fight with, automatically advances the twine and was very reasonably priced. Well, all that doesn't really matter because after using it for less than 5 minutes, it started giving me grief! I made it a few feet and the twine disappeared into the mechanism. So, I dismantled it and advanced the line by hand and made it a few more feet before it happened again. I was finally able to make it around our fairly large yard, after several more "fixes." It still had a great charge after about 45 minutes, but continued to give me trouble.
Now, being a non-mechanical person, I turned it over to my Mr. Fix-it husband. He had no more success than I did, so we had to resort to taking it in for warranty repair, which will take 3 weeks! So, I guess this was not such a deal after all.
By the way, the technician who helped my husband when he took this to the warranty repair shop said that they had a lot of this model coming in with problems.
One other frustrating drawback is that the recharging unit has to be mounted on a wall. This took a while since it is heavy and need "anchors," so as not to destroy the sheetrock in our garage.
The concept is a good one, but they need to work on the details. It was a pain to put up the recharging unit, and its an even bigger pain to have to wait for it to be repaired after coming straight out of the box! I would invest in another brand if I had it to do again!
UPDATE 7/12/2002: So far, this has been in the shop for the warranty repairs for 2 MONTHS!!! I called today and they said the part is on backorder-I think that tells me that there are a bunch of them broken! Maybe they are redesigning the part???
FINAL UPDATE 8/2002: We finally got our weed eater back and it still has the same problem after being worked on for more than 2 months. Its trash. PLEASE don't waste your hardearned money on this product!
