| sibertswelding's Full Review: Black & Decker G850 4-1/2 Angle Grinder |
OK, heres the deal... there are many grinders available, some expensive, some cheap...some are well made, some are crap that falls apart in your hands; over the years, I had a few of each. So far, this little grinder is the best bang for the buck Ive ever had. Mind you, I still have my 200$ Milwaukee, but; I got 4 of these at WAL-MART for 30$ each, and Ive dogged the hell out of them on everything from pipe to rod, cutting, grinding, sanding... you name it. This little jobber keeps right up with a 150$ DeWalt 402 like a cloned sibling. AND...the thing is, I personally like having the handle on the rear of the grinder, it really takes the strain off the hands when you work hard all day. Honestly, I hate the barrel design commenly used today by most makers of the 4.5" grinders.
Now lets talk economics, I run welding trucks, 3 in total... and one thing Ive learned is that expensive grinders are great, until someone else decides to walk-off with them or they get dropped from a 20 foot ladder onto a concrete parking lot. Bottom line, in the hands of a REAL working man, even the best grinder has a life expectency of about 2-3 years... being worked hard, dropped, banged-around in a tool box, it all adds up.... so why spend 150$ every 3 years, average of 50$ a year...when you can get a good grinder for about 30 bucks. These will last as long as a more expensive brand, (mine have, and I run them as hard as ony other tool I've ever owned)...and should it "get up and go for a walk", or get dropped off a ladder, or even left on a job-site by accident, its only $30..not $150 or more. DUH!!
