Santa Claus was very kind to me the Christmas of 2001. He saw that I was an over-worked, tired old woman that needed all kinds of help. Under the tree that year was a wonderful foot massager, some fuzzy bedroom slippers, a soft pink chenille robe and a Black & Decker Gizmo Can Opener. So it was true!!!...I had been a good girl after all!!

When Bobby and I got married we needed absolutely everything to maintain a household. We began with zip, zilch, zero, not a thing. The local Family Dollar store grew accustomed to my face as I shopped there almost daily for the things that we would need. The handy little $7.00 can opener that I picked up served our purposes for a time. The blade grew dull quickly and I found myself the victim of numerous little nicks and cuts. When Santa brought my Black & Decker Gizmo Can Opener, I believe that the Bandaid and Neosporin stock probably dropped drastically.

The Black & Decker Gizmo Can Opener is first and foremost, very lightweight. It rests in a compact, 6-3/4" by 5-1/2" plastic charging base that can be mounted on a wall, under a cabinet, placed in drawer, or simply set on any counter. When it is fully charged, it can be used for up to a month without recharging. This makes it real handy for traveling in an RV. It comes with 2 instruction booklets...one for use and care of the product, and one for mounting the charging base. There are 4 "Spacer Mounting Assemblies" also included. These are required when mounting the unit under a cabinet. The instructions are easy to read and there is a guide that will help you to determine exactly how many mounting assemblies that will be needed.

This wonderful little machine does all the work for you. By simply raising the handle and attaching it to any can, it will "walk" itself around, without any further help from you. You can also use the Black & Decker Gizmo Can Opener while it rests in its' base just as you would any other traditional can opener. To release it from the charging base, you simply lift a small latch that is located on the top right-hand corner of the base. The blade is very sharp and cuts evenly and precisely. It is easily removable and is dishwasher safe, making clean-up a breeze. I've been using mine for over a year now and the blade is still just as sharp as it was when it was brand new.

One of the features that I really appreciate is the ability to use the Black & Decker Gizmo Can Opener anywhere at all. It is cordless which helps so much if you need to drain the liquid from a can over the sink. It's so handy to be able to open a can directly on top of the stove without spilling a drop. The strong swing-out magnet will hold the lid in place until you engage the release button.

The Black & Decker Gizmo Can Opener is white on one side, the cutting side....and a very deep purple color on the other side, with the "Gizmo" logo imprinted. It fits into your hand comfortably and is easy to control. The plastic charging base is also white with the "Black and Decker Gizmo" logo in the upper left corner and it was very easy to install under one of my cabinets.

After years of fighting to open those over-sized cans of coffee and the 3lb cans of shortening, it has been such a pleasure to see my wonderful little Black & Decker Gizmo Can Opener take its' own little stroll around those lids and keep my fingers free from injury.

We all know it is in very bad taste to reveal the price of a gift, so Santa, being the wonderful, polite fellow that he is, would not go into specifics with me. But after doing a bit of research, I found the Black & Decker Gizmo Can Opener retails for about $30.00. A very worthy investment, indeed!

One of the greatest features of this wonderful little "Gizmo" is something I haven't even touched on yet. I have found it to be more effective than any dog whistle around. As soon as Skeeter hears the sound of it, he comes running!!
