At the local big box hardware store, I was informed that this was more a drill for amateurs then professionals. The Skoal ring in the blue jeans must have fooled the salesman because I am very much an amateur craftsman, but a long-time professional at screwing up household projects. I paid no heed to the unintended scoff because I was in need of a new drill, or the piled up household projects would continue to build. The one I had been using for the past dozen or so years scarcely held a charge, and I had lost many of the interchangeable bits over the years. What I found in the BDK 2-Speed Drill was a compact, lightweight, and user-friendly drill that packed enough of a wallop for my household needs, but was still easily maneuverable. From the manual the drill, the tool is equipped with two 12-volt NiCad batteries, the requisite two-port charger, and two double-ended tips in its own kit box.
The drill comes with only two gears, up to 350 RPM in the low gear, and quadrupling that in the high speed gear to 1400 RPMs. The all-metal single-sleeve chuck is intended to resist wear and tear for dependable long-term use. If I can get another ten years out of this drill, the $65 price tag (plus tax) will be well worth the investment. This user-friendly drill also offers a spindle lock that engages quickly for fast bit changes (as long as you don't misplace the bits), and has a rubber grip, which seems to be standard nowadays. Now if it would only make my honey-do list disappear, we would be all set.
