This review is on the 100 watt Black & Decker Maxx Power Inverter for vehicles.
Black and Decker has done it again. Just when you think they have already thought of all the neat gadgets to make our lives easier they give us another one.
Our previous inverter served us faithfully for several years before being dropped one too many times. We picked this one up on a mad dash to Wal-Mart for a replacement.
Black and Decker makes several varieties. The 100 watt with one plug is the lightweight version. It powers up to 0.87 amps and turns your car's DC power into household 115 AC power.
Because it is lightweight if you are wanting to plug in several items at once, or need to use an item that needs to use more amps, you will want to buy one of the other varities. Just like in your home, if you overload an electrical outlet you are going to eventually run into problems.
To help prevent problems this inverter has both overload protection and short circuit protection. It also has low battery shutdown to prevent total battery drain - a real plus!
That said, our goal was to provide electricity to the laptop and, in case of emergency, to power an asthma nebulizer without spending much money on the gadget. At $17.96 plus tax, the 100 watt inverter worked perfectly for our needs.

At about 3" (plus 2" plug) you can hold the entire inverter in the palm of your hand. The neck tilts 45 degrees to provide a variety of angles. This helps keep the inverter out of the way of drink cups and legs. Electrical cords fit snugly the 3 prong slot of the inverter.
The unit slides into the power point easily but it takes a firm grip to pull it out. We did not manage to dislodge it from the socket once during our recent vacation.
We were very pleased with the inverter. It was priced right and worked well for our needs. Having the laptop running and keeping the teenagers in the back seat occupied was like a dream come true!
