Opinion Summary
Flashlights are a thing of the past. Multiple light-source headlamps are the future.

Pros: LED and Xenon light sources. Long battery life. Low cost. Weatherproof. Award winning design.
Cons: No separate button for different lights. Prismatic reflector not very adjustable.

Just one question: if you (and most of your friends) seldom if ever use the bright bulb, why carry the extra 5 oz? I'd guess the Tikka or similar would meet your needs fine (see my excellent review of same, of course).

Well...I seldom use it but when I do use it I'm glad it's there. A lower output LED is no substitute when you're trying to figure out if the creature in the bush over there is a racoon or a bear. With the Xenon light I don't have to get as close. It's like your first aid kit...really there's not much in there to save your life (a brain is what will save your life) and I could save 14oz by not carrying it especially since I rarely use it...but when I do...it's nice that it's there. Same thing. It's just nice to have.

As for the Tikka...my roommate has one and so does another friend of mine and both have problems with the switch...but that's an entirely different topic. Otherwise it's a great light.

One of those purchases I keep putting off... (Reply to this comment)

This is one of those items I keep on putting on my list to get, and keep forgetting to snag. I found them invaluable in my Abandoned Mine Exploring days (put to an end when my marriage began) but was always borrowing my friends. Now even though I don't do that kinda spelunking anymore, I still think it'd come in handy for camping, working on the car, etc.

Anyway, great review. I'll have to look at some more of your stuff.

Thanks for the comment. These lights work great for mountain bikers as well. That way instead of having a light on their handlebars that only face in the direction their handlebars face...the light goes where they look.

Yes, there are many times when a headlamp is the perfect solution!

Recently we've been having problems with racoons climbing a tree to get at the bird feeder, and our two dogs go crazy barking in the middle of the night.

Hubby broke out his headlamp (inferior to this one I might add), and his Wrist Rocket the other night when the dogs started going nuts, and plunked the little buggars. Couldn't have done it without the hands-free light. Worked like a charm - both the headlight and the Wrist Rocker :)

Excellent review!
