Pros: Fresh with a soft chewy texture. Acceptable flavor.
Cons: Upset stomach. Addictive.
Gummy bears are on my list of prohibited food in this house because I will eat them until they are gone. We got our first pack of the week at the grocery store. There were several different brands to choose from but we opted to pay more for the Black Forest brand because we remembered liking the brand in the past.
Not all gummy bears are created equal. Some are tough and hard to chew, some have a white dusting over them, and some are just plain disgusting in flavor. This meets our standard of a gummy with good flavor and a soft chewy texture.
We polished the first bag quickly and it left us wanting more. When we saw a huge 6 pound bag at the wholesale club for $6 we grabbed it. It was much cheaper per pound in this large quantity compared to the grocery store. Probably shouldn’t have brought 6 pounds home, but that’s a different story.
A serving size is only 15 gummies which is a seriously small amount that equals less than handful. I wish I could tell you how long these stay fresh, but they don’t last that long in our house. They come in resealable zipper pouch to help keep stay fresh. Exposing them to air dries them out and makes them tough and unappealing.
The gummies have good flavor, but they could be better. Unfortunately they are artificially flavored. There are 5 artificially colored bears in the bag: red, green, orange, yellow and white. The red one is reminds me of cherry flavored candy and is my least favorite of the flavors. None of the colors have a distinct flavor to them and I closed my eyes and tasted one I probably wouldn’t be able to tell you which one I picked.
I’m very thirsty after eating these and within minutes have a yucky stomach ache even if I only have a serving size. They are chewy but don’t stick to my teeth very much. My jaw does get tired if I eat them one after another. Still, not as bad on my jaw as the drier brands which hurt my teeth too much to eat.
Black Forest is an easy brand to find at stores and the gummies taste pretty good. Strangely it consistently leaves an unsettling feeling in my stomach so I probably won't be buying them again.
