I do make my own bread (or should I say, I did make my own bread) but the messiness of the exercise meant that I didn't it too often. Now, since I've had the machine, I've used it everyday and today I used it twice, once to make bread for lunch and again to make calzones for dinner !
Anyone who's ever baked bread before will quickly understand how it works. It does the same steps a human does but all from within a little bread pan.
You do have to be careful as to follow the recipe precisely otherwise your batter will not have the right consistency. When making bread manually, this doesn't matter as much since you can correct the density as your are kneading the bread.
The product itself seems to be very well made. The bread pan is made of nonstick material --will see how well it does over time and the entire machine is covered in metal as well. I have never had or used any other bread machine before so I can't compare.
The operation is fairly quiet. Kneading is less noisy than our dishwasher. There a few beeps which could wake you up.
While there are a few settings such as 'Rapid', 'Sweet', and 'Grain' that you can set to changed how long the dough will be cooked and at what temperature, you can't control it like an oven. I'm having difficulty getting crusts that's right for me. So far, 'Sweet' seems to work best for lighter crust, better than the crust setting.
There are few recipes that come with the booklet but you can find thousands of others on the internet :-)
