| tony_vancouver's Full Review: Black & Decker B2000 Bread Machine |
This bread machine works as advertised. It makes nice baked bread and it also prepares dough for pizzas and fancy breads that you shape and finish in a regular oven. The machine is easy to use and the manual is easy to understand and has a variety of recipes.
The downside is the durability of the machine. Our first unit failed after about 3 months. The motor would turn but the beater wouldn't move. The retailer ("The Bay" in Canada) replaced it with a brand new machine. The replacement machine worked well for several years at a rate of about 0-2 loaves per week. Then the beater began making loud clunking noises and eventually the shaft became so loose and wobbly that the machine was unusable. Seems the retaining ring for the shaft has worn out or broken.
The Black and Decker repair depot said they no longer deal with kitchen appliances in Canada, only tools. They referred us to a general appliance repair shop. The shop told us they cannot get parts for the unit. Searching the Internet, the USA Black and Decker website has a link to Fox Appliances. Fox's website doesn't have a replacement bread pan for this model, but for another model, the cost is $75 CDN including shipping. That is the cost of a new name brand bread machine on sale.
A shame to throw out an appliance for lack of a simple 5 cent retaining ring.
We're shopping for another bread machine, but it'll be a different manufacturer.
