| atamogaokashii's Full Review: Black & Decker RC400 7-Cup Rice Cooker |
Rice, rice and more rice. I find myself eating more and more rice these days, and what better way to cook rice than in an appliance created specifically for the purpose? It was recommended to me to buy a rice cooker by a very skinny Chinese man I used to date. He extolled the usefulness of a rice cooker to no end, as he was Chinese, ate a lot of rice and lived in a strange house that had bedrooms much like a dormitory. I ignored his advice until I married a man from Bangladesh who goes insane if he does not eat rice at least once a day.
The RC400 Rice Cooker made by Black & Decker is cheap and it works. I know these are words that most folks like to hear when it comes to stuff. And when I say stuff I dont mean stuff if you know what I mean.
A rice cooker is a very simple appliance. All you do is pour in the desired amount of rice and then put in the recommended amount of water, plug the thing in, and approximately 20 minutes later you have wonderful, hot, and fluffy rice.
Features of this rice cooker include:
*Removable 16-cup bowl (makes up to 16 cups of rice)
*Indicator lights showing cooking and warming cycles
*Heavy-duty glass lid that allows you to see the cooking process
*Detachable cord for easy serving and storage
*Measuring scoop and spatula
*Detailed instructions describing proper usage and cooking tips for different kinds of rice
Another nice feature about this rice cooker is that it automatically switches from the cooking cycle to the warming cycle so that the rice can be kept warm for several hours.
A downside to this rice cooker is that it is not non-sticky so cleaning it is kind of a pain. Also, sometimes the rice on the bottom turns into a thin, chewy crust.
So far, this rice cooker has not given me any problems and has created perfect rice every time Ive used it. If rice is a large part of your diet, why not buy a rice cooker and save a lot of unnecessary hassle?
