dkozin's Full Review: Panasonic LM AF120U (LM-AF120U3) 2x DVD-RAM Storag...
What do you need to enjoy excellent picture quality your new DVD recorder provides? You need quality rewriteable media that you can reliably use over and over again. If you have a DVD recorder that uses DVD-RAM media, Panasonic DVD-RAM discs are inexpensive and reliable.
Pricing
The Panasonic DVD-RAM discs cost about $5 per disc (if bought in a 3-pack). Since they can fit about 2 hours in SP mode, and if you consider the prices of Super VHS tape, which doesnt come close in terms of picture quality, their price is very reasonable.
Packaging
The discs I used came in a pack of three and each one had a caddy. The caddy reminds me of the days when I used both 5.25 and 3.5 computer diskettes. They resemble a 5.25 diskette in size and 3.5 diskette in appearance and sturdiness.
The caddys protect discs from being scratched by accident as well as from dust and elements.
Capacity
The disc fits 4.7 Gb of data or about 120 minutes in SP mode (or 1 hour in XP mode, 4 hours in LP mode, 6 hours in EP-6H and 8 hours in EP-8H). Depending on your recorder, the recording times may be different.
Performance
I have tried the discs in a Panasonic DVD recorder and they performed as advertised, providing reliable operation and excellent picture quality with no dropouts/freezing.
I have not tested them with a computer data for the lack of thereof, however I have all reasons to believe that they will work well in a computer drive also, since it is basically the same thing as recording a Video DVD (DVD Video disc has MPEG-2 encoded video files).
Conclusion
The Panasonic DVD-RAM discs are low-priced and perform well. Highly recommended.
