moonsista's Full Review: Blistex Lip Protectant/Sunscreen SPF 15 Raspberry ...
I tend to gravitate to the Blistex brand of lip balms when looking for a new lip balm to try. I find that they are among the least waxy, they moisturize my lips pretty well and help to ward off chapped lips during the cold winter months. One of the lip balms that I've been seeing on the store shelves is Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Protectant. I am not a HUGE fan of raspberry scents or flavors, but I do like raspberry somewhat, and I have really enjoyed a lot of Blistex's other flavored and scented lip balms, so I decided to give this one a try. I'm glad I did, as it's a pretty nice one.
Product Details:
Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Protectant is a solid lip balm that comes in a shimmery, dark red plastic tube. The tube is a classic swivel-up tube and it has a cap that snaps on and pulls off. The tube has a cobalt blue label with a picture of raspberries and a lemon wedge splashing in water. The balm itself is clear and does not add a tint or shimmer to the lips when applied.
There is .15 oz. of lip balm in each tube.
This product's packaging states the following:
Super-Smooth Moisturization: Raspberry Lemonade Blast is fortified with anti-oxidant vitamins C&E and rich moisturizers to quench your lips. It's a smooth-gliding balm that leaves lips feeling protected and totally juicy.
Refreshing Flavor Sensation: Raspbery Lemonade Blast is a mouthwatering combination of two tasty fruit flavors. Luscious raspberries and sweet lemonade deliver and explosion of flavor. It's as delicious as it is effective.
Sun Protection/Sun Alert: Raspberry Lemonade Blast provides SPF 15 protection. Limiting sun exposure, wearing protective clothing and using sunscreens may reduce the risks of skin aging, skin cancer and other harmful effects of the sun.
I've owned a ton of lip balms since I was a kid. My mom used to buy me the little Christmas and Easter lip balms from Avon and I would use them constantly. That is what started my addiction to lip balms and is probably why I have one everywhere - my purse, my desk at work, our computer desk at home, my car, etc. At any given time, I'm the proud owner of five or more lip balms. I'm happy to say that Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Protectant is as good as any of them.
The scent of this lip balm is the first thing anyone will notice. It's a pretty strong scent. The raspberry scent is the most prominent, and there isn't a lot of "lemon" or "lemonade" scent in there, but you can definitely tell that there is something mixed in with the raspberry scent, as the scent of this balm isn't a straight raspberry scent. It's a very sweet scent and smells like Kool-Aid to me (it's that super-sweet, very fruity type of a scent).
Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Protectant is not a waxy lip balm like a Chap Stick type of balm. It's a firm balm but it's not as firm or hard as the Chap Stick type. It's a bit softer and a bit easier to apply to the lips without being an all-out glossy type of lip balm. My lips never feel like they have a waxy coating on them, and this is a good balm for applying over or under lipstick or lip gloss when needed. I tend to use lip balm over and under lipstick and lip gloss during the summer months for sun protection and during the winter months for wind and cold protection, and this balm performs very well during both seasons. I also like to use lip balm to give a bit of moisture to a more dry lipstick and again, this balm performs well in that area too.
I don't stay out in the sun for very long in the summer, but during the little bit of time that I am out in the sun, I want sun protection on my lips. I don't know if this product protects from sun damage or not - and I don't know if protects from an actual sunburn on the lips because I don't stay out that long - but since I've used this balm, I haven't had any problems from the sun with my lips. I think that this balm does a great job of helping to prevent chapped lips in the winter. I can get chapped lips as early as October when the temperatures start to drop and the wind gets colder. Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Protectant helps to prevent chapped lips just as well as any other lip balm I've used.
Like any lip balm, Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Protectant doesn't last all day on the lips. The longest amount of wear time that I get is about an hour. Sometimes it's less and sometimes it's more, depending on what I'm doing. If I'm eating or drinking, it will not last long on my lips. If I'm not eating or drinking, it will last about an hour. I have taken this lip balm into meetings at work with me that I thought were going to last longer than about an hour, because I hate the feeling of dry lips.
This lip balm has a tangy raspberry flavor in addition to the scent. Again, I don't detect much of a "lemon" or "lemonade" flavor, but it's a pleasant, sweet but tangy raspberry flavor and is one that I enjoy. It's not a super strong flavor, however, and is just about right. I don't think I would want the flavor to be much stronger.
For a more inexpensive lip balm, Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Protectant moisturizes my lips overall. It does not moisturize as well as a lip butter type of balm, but those balms are typically far more expensive and they typically contain more moisturizing ingredients. For about $1.99, this lip balm performs very well and is definitely a bargain. It takes me at least a couple of months to go through a lip balm (because of how many I own and keep in different areas), so the $1.99 price makes it even more of a bargain.
Overall, I highly recommend Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Lip Protectant. I think it's a great lip balm and is one of many great lip balms that Blistex makes. It would be great for all ages from children age 3 to adults of any age. I would say it's more of a product that women would like because of the raspberry lemonade scent and flavor, but who knows - men might like it as well. I like that it's non-waxy, moisturizes and protects my lips well and contains SPF. The fruity flavor and scent are a bonus.
