Bloom Eye Colour Cream - You can't go yet! I'm just getting to know you!

Written: Feb 13 '06
Pros:Long lasting, pretty colors, easy to carry with you, subtle for day or night
Cons:Creased slightly, I think it's being discontinued
The Bottom Line: Not one to use cream eye colors nor single pots, I did this time and liked the results. Get some now if you can because I think they're being discontinued.

When I come across sales on cosmetics, I can’t help myself, especially if the sale is good and the product is one I haven’t yet tried. I recently picked up a number of items from Sephora by Bloom. One of those items was Bloom Eye Colour Cream.

I usually use powder shadows and rarely buy eye shadow in single colors because I don’t wear it that often but, for $5.00 on sale, I took a chance. I don’t regret it.

The Official Word

From Bloom’s website:

Eye colour cream

These fabulously flattering Lavender infused Eye Creams create luminous highlights and moody accents to lids and lash-lines with just a touch of the finger or dip of the brush and are the perfect alternative to greasy glazes, troublesome leaky tubes, or spill-it-everywhere loose powdered pans. These compact glimmering creams give a modern, twinkling veil of colour that can be worn alone for a sheer wash of colour or under shadow for a richer, more intense hue

The Packaging

This little pot of cream comes boxed in Bloom’s signature coppery colored box with their logo on it. Inside, the pot is silver with a screw on/off top that has a clear plastic overlay so you can see the color of the shadow without hunting for the name or opening it. It also has the Bloom logo on it which is a cartoon woman’s face and a hand written-looking word “Bloom” scrawled across it. This cream shadow is only 3g and I was a shocked at how small the tub was at first but realized that only a touch is needed for the eyelids and any more would just go bad before I could use it.

My Experience

I recently bought three items of clothing that are a sort of deep teal. I had no eye shadows that matched so I tried Lagoon in this one. The color chart looked like it may match but one never knows when looking at a computer screen whether the color is true or not. Still, I figured it would be pretty even if it didn’t match the clothes I had in mind.

To my delight, the color was a perfect match. Lagoon is a blue with deep undertones that looks classy not 70’s or garish even on my eyelids which cover deep brown eyes.

I screwed off the top and noticed that the eye colour cream had a slight lavender scent. It was subtle but pleasant.

The shadow is creamy but not very soft or gooey at all. I used my fingers to swipe a small amount off the top and apply to my lids. I finished it off with a good eye shadow brush to distribute the color evenly. The first application was very sheer. It was only a wash of color. I found two applications worked better for me and even then, the color was subtle and not at all deep or heavy.

The shadow also was not sparkly or bling. It perfectly matched my sweater and didn’t look too “done”.

I worried about creasing as cream shadows often end up in a one line in the crease of my eyelids after a short time of wear. This shadow didn’t crease for while but did crease a bit after a few hours - not terribly bad, but I did have to smooth it out a bit.

The shadow lasted a long time on my lids and was pretty much identical looking when I got home several hours after leaving the house than when I walked out after having just applied the shadow. Even with the slight creasing - which I later learned could be stopped by wearing a good eye shadow base (sales rule!) - the shadow had amazing lasting power.

I removed the shadow with eye make up remover but it also comes off with regular facial cleanser. It is not waterproof.

The eye shadow comes in six colors: Eskimo, Taupe, Peony, Lavender, Moss, and Lagoon.

Buying Info

I believe Bloom may be discontinuing this line or making new colors because I can’t find the shadow sold online at many beauty or cosmetic websites any longer. I paid $5.00 for my pot of shadow but regular price is $15.00. We’ll have to wait to see if Bloom comes out with new colors of this eye shadow or if this formula is gone for good. It would be a shame because it has the lasting power that many cream shadows don’t.

Conclusion

I don’t think I would have sunk $15.00 into a single color of shadow, especially not such an unusual color. However, for $5.00, this eye shadow was a great buy. The color starts out sipper subtle and builds to a slightly deeper shade. It isn’t all sparkly and glittery which is something I just don’t like in any cosmetics.

The eye shadow is easy to apply and long lasting. It did crease a bit but, after I used a good eye shadow base, that problem was over. The shadow stayed on until I took it off many hours later and caused no bad reactions or irritation to my sensitive eye area. The cream also was moisturizing but not greasy.

I give this product 4 stars and hope it returns in a similar form soon (and at a lower price!).
