| Arran's Full Review: Blowfish Sushi to Die For |
From the moment I laid eyes on this maverick of a sushi restaurant, I knew that the experience would be a far cry from the conventional sushi ambiance of samishen music and kimono clad servers. The huge, angry red blowfish above the door sets the stage for the modern and hip interior. The walls are red, adorned with cells from Japanese animation. Televisions affixed in all corners of the room flash the animation as well but are drowned out by loud, modern pop, techno music. The employees are as much part of the scenery as the new age hanging light fixtures. Tatoos and unnaturally colored hair abound, as well as a great knowledge of their edible fair.
Reservations are a must, and I would recomend making them a few days in advance to ensure an agreeable time on a popular night such as thursday. But once you are finally in the door and seated at your table, get ready for the hassle of getting to this out of the way establishment to pay off in a big way. Start off with some of their wonderful sake or a creative cocktail, such as a peach nympho (my personal favorite). After that, the unusual as well as traditional selections of sushi offered will astound both eyes and tongue. Although I was skeptical at first that Blowfish relies on flash while leaving out the quality of fish, I was certainly mistaken. The suchi is some of the best that I have ever experienced as well as constantly offering surprising and somewhat unconventional treats for me, the seasoned sushi connosieur. Whatever you do eat, be adventurous and I know that you will leave with that certain "sushi euphoria" that continually brings me back to the bar.
