| gamblinfamily's Full Review: Blue's Clues Inflatable Thinking Chair |
My son watches Blues Clues with a passion. He loves the show, and the characters. Which is great by me. Of course one of the things that came natural to me was to buy him this chair. It encased everything he loved into one package. I should have learned though, after the disappointment with the older Notebook (I wrote a review on that, a while back). Alas, I didn't and here I am with a review that pained me to write.
Why? Well because the chair is cute, and did go a step further than other inflatable chairs. I believe Blues Clues is a great show, and has encouraged my son to no end. But, the chair's design and poor durability factor make me have to write another bad review :-(
Mommy, You Blow!
The toy up that is! Although I am sure after he used the chair he thought that since I bought it!
I started by taking the red thinking chair out, and unfolding it. I started to blow it up. Well, I was no match for this 2 foot tall chair. I finally decided to call the neighbor and borrow a hand air pump. I had the chair good to go and ready to be played with in minutes. It was now ready for play!
The Good Part & The Bad Parts...
Well as I stated there was a good part. The chair does indeed do more than just act as a butt warmer. Located on the arm of the chair is a paw print. When my son touched this paw print the Blues Clues Song was played. He loved this touch, and used it often. Since his other inflatable chairs did nothing butt (pun) sit there he gave the Thinking Chair extra attention.
Pretty Chair, Cool Concept...BAD BAD Design
It is attractive looks just like the chair on the show only plastic. It comes complete with swirls and black outlines on the arms. How cool is that my son gets to be just like Steve.
BUTT....
Does Steve tip over or fall out the chair? Well my son did just that more than a few times. It was not his weight either as this chair can be used it claims up to 70 lbs. My son weighs in at 35 pounds. That's half of what is their stated limit. We tried releasing some air. That did help for a time but it is poorly made. Active kids I assume would demolish this chair in a matter of minutes.
Do you know where the Missing Leak is...
My son was not rough with this chair at all. It went from tipping over to a missing leak. The air would not stay in anymore. We searched in vain to find the source of the leak. It was nowhere to be found. Finally we gave up.
Different Chair - Same Results
Nana Boo Boo heard of the events and bought him another chair!
Awww Shucks Mom, Not Again
Well after the second disappointment we finally decided to throw in the towel. My son was the most disappointed of all, claiming it was just like that notebook Waaaaaaa!
My Thoughts & Recommendations
If not for the poor design and thin plastic I think this would have been a perfect toy. It seems like toys are no longer made to last like before. They are made to be bought, used and thrown away. There won't be a garage sale find for you on this toy. It will be sitting out by the curb, awaiting trash day however.
I recommend either buying the foam Blues Clues chair, or just holding off till they get the experimenting and bad concepts out the way. I really don't like seeing disappointment in my child's eyes, how about you?
