| pictureperfect's Full Review: Blue's Clues Inflatable Thinking Chair |
My 2 year old son is an avid viewer of the popular Blue's Clues show on Nick, Jr. Because of this, he received many new Blue's Clues items for Christmas. One of the items that he received was the Blue's Clues Inflatable Thinking Chair.
As the name of the item indicates, this is an inflatable chair. It has 4 air chambers for inflation, however the valves do not have the little flap on the inside to make it easy to close once inflated. Because of this, it takes a quick mom or dad to get the valve closed without the thing deflating.
The chair does look like the "thinking chair" on the show and is the perfect size for a toddler. It is red in color and has the swirls imprinted into the vinyl for a textured look. It also has the black lines drawn on the front of the arms to give it the rolled arm look.
The inflatable chair does have one difference from the one on the show. This chair has a blue paw print on the right arm of the chair. Inside of the paw print is a musical device, that when pressed will play the Blue's Clues theme. While this is cute, the one that is in the chair that my son received, doesn't play loud enough to even hear it. I'm not sure if all of the chairs have this problem, but considering the fact that the box said that it "plays" music and the one my son received doesn't, leaves me wondering on that aspect of this product.
Currently the only information I can provide on the durability of this product is as follows: So far, this chair has survived the relentless torture of my 9 year old son, which is amazing since it is made of vinyl/plastic.
Another concern that I have regarding this chair is the fact that it is marketed for toddler/preschool age children. While Blue's Clues is for this age group, this product presents somewhat of a safety concern. Since this product is vinyl/plastic, it poses a suffocation hazard. Parents need to provide plenty of supervision due to this. Also, another thing is this is intended for use indoors and is not a pool toy.
While I have problems with this product, I am allowing my son to continue to play with this with close parental supervision.
As with any product for small children, parents need to provide supervision and check for any defects and small pieces to the product.
