Traveling with a family of 5 always presents challenges. Who knew we were crossing into a "no travel" zone when we had our third child. The dilemna is always the same: Book 2 rooms and pray that even though they won't guarantee connecting rooms, you get them? Or just lie and say 4 people? Boardwalk gave us another choice.
We booked our room by phone as it was a last minute trip. And we traveling early spring, before Easter and spring break. We had no problems with booking, everyone we dealt with was helpful and courteous. The hotel is easy to find, and right on the ocean.
Our room was actually more of a suite. When you first walked in the door, it looked like a standard hotel room with 2 double beds, dresser and TV. As you walk straight back, you find yourself in the kitchenette. This is a fully equipped kitchen, and everything was as clean as you'd want it to be. Kitchen stuff is on your right. On your left is the bathroom, which comes with a large whirlpool tub. Not the cheesy regular bathtub kind with jets, a real whirlpool tub. Bathroom was also spotless.
Keep walking straight back, and you're in the living room. It has a couch, and sliding doors to the balcony, which has 2 chairs and a small table. it's a perfect place to drink coffee and wait for the family to wake up, and it's a full ocean view. The living room comes complete with pull down Murphy bed. Now, if you're not of my generation, you may never have seen one of these up close. A murphy bed pulls down out of the wall. The kids come not get over this. It was more comfortable than I would have expected, but it is a Murphy bed, so don't expect more that decent pull out couch quality.
Boardwalk is located just a little way from all the commotion of the Pavilion and other chaos. Traveling with a family, we thought this was a good thing. Note, the Pavilion completed it's last season 2006, so the "hot spots" in Myrtle Beach may be about to change.
Boardwalk features an outdoor pool, which is your standard boring rectangle. It also has a small "lazy river" pool, which we used a lot, even in the cooler weather. The current is gentle enough for not-so-expert kid swimmers. Boardwalk also has an indoor pool, so off season swimming is available. I did find the chemical fumes in there a bit much, but that's typical of indoor pools and it was no worse than most.
Customer service really kicked in for us at check out. My 7 year old had left "blankie" behind. Now, blankie is really just a scrap of nasty looking fabric, and we were very concerned that it might have been trashed. The cleaning crew really when out of their way for us on this, and blankie was located, safely, in the laundry room.
I will definitely return to the Boardwalk.
