| melissasrn's Full Review: Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop 06590 |
When many of our relatives asked what to get our 2.5 year old son, Tristan, for Christmas last year, I most often stated "anything Bob the Builder related." For over the past few months, he has discovered this popular TV program on nickjr, which currently airs at 12:30PM EST weekdays. When the catchy theme song starts, he gets all excited and screams very loudly: "Bob is coming on!" So from his aunt and uncle, Tristan received this Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop and he's played with this interesting talking machine numerous times over the past month. Much larger than most of the other Bob the Builder toys he owns, however, this talking electronic yellow digger/backhoe is easily one of his favorites. For Scoop not only repeats several cute sayings from the TV show itself, but he also has movable parts that encourage realistic play. Read on to find out more about this great addition to any child's Bob the Builder collection.
~~~The Toy~~~
Recommended for preschoolers ages 3 and up, this electronic Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop is bright yellow in color and measures approximately 7 inches wide and 14 inches in length with the backhoe folded inward. According to advertising from the manufacturer: this lively digger/backhoe is the leader of the team! Lift front bucket, move his backhoe or roll him back and forth to hear fun phrases! Place any Adventure Bob (TM) figure (not included) on the cab platform and they'll talk to each other! Featuring a wide digging bucket in the front that activates several different phrases that moves up and down, Scoop repeats many things the TV character often says. On the front of the engine are Scoop's eyes, and on top is a yellow light that doesn't really light up. In the back, you'll find a bendable backhoe that will fold or stretch out straight. The front wheels are small (and will bend inward) while the back ones are large but stationary, and toward the back are the safety guards that prevent Scoop from tipping over while he's busy working. The Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop will roll forward and backward and is constructed of easy to clean, durable plastic materials sure to stand up to a preschooler's rough handling.
~~~Price & Availability~~~
Since Tristan received his Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop from family members as a Christmas gift, I'm not sure how much was paid for this talking electronic toy. But currently, Scoop may be found at many online websites, such as www.amazon.com, for approximately $24.99 each. Or look in the toy department of your favorite discount or toy shop, such as Wal-Mart as I've seen many of the Bob the Builder toys at our local store. This Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop is somewhat expensive in price when compared to the smaller machines that can be purchase for about $8, so look for sales if you enjoy finding a bargain.
~~~How to Play with Scoop~~~
Requiring two "AA" batteries (which DO come included, by the way!), preschoolers can activate Scoop's voice in many ways: by lifting the front bucket, by moving the backhoe, by rolling him back and forth, or by placing an Adventure Bob figure on the bottom step of the cab platform. Some of the phrases that are played in Scoop's voice include: "I'm Ready to Go!", I Love to Work Hard!", "I'm in Charge!", and "I Can Dig It!" Tristan has the Bob the Builder "Tunnel Rescue" Adventure Bob figure (sold separately) and his large foot fits right there on Scoop's bottom step as suggested. When Scoop is activated with Adventure Bob in place, preschoolers will hear Bob's voice say: "Let's roll scoop! We've got a busy day ahead of us!". And in return, Scoop will say: No prob, Bob! Both will also say "Can we fix it! Yes we can!", followed by the catchy theme song music as well. While it's not required to have an Adventure Bob to activate this Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop, owning this extra toy allows more phrases to be heard.
~~~Our Experience~~~
Two and half year old Tristan enjoys activating this Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop in the many ways listed above. He'll move the bucket up and down and roll Scoop across the floor while physically lying down next to this large toy. He only recently discovered that he could activate Bob's voice as well by placing his Adventure Bob Tunnel Rescue figure on the cab platform bottom step. So hearing Bob's voice along with Scoop's is a pleasant surprise he certainly wasn't counting on. While the repetitive phrases do get irritating to the adults over time, especially since there is no "on-off" switch located on Scoop, at least the volume isn't extremely loud, although it can be quite noisy at times. So as with any electronic toy, give this Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop a try in the store first to assess your tolerance to the voices and music.
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
Delight your preschool fan of Bob the Builder and friends Muck, Roley, Dizzy, and Wendy, just to name a few, with this Bob the Builder Adventure Scoop today as this happy yellow machine makes a wonderful gift. Whether it is the first Bob the Builder toy you purchase or the tenth, adding talking Scoop to your child's collection is sure to please him or her immensely. Played with alone or with other toys in the Bob the Builder line, including any of the Adventure Bob figurines, electronic Scoop will entertain youngsters for a long time to come.
