A recent Epinions review of Bobbi Brown eye shadow sent me to my local Jacobson's Department Store to see what all the excitement is about. Where I live, we don't have the widest selection of cosmetic stores, and Bobbi Brown is something that I have heard of often, but never purchased. Shortly after the very positive review which I read, I heard that Jacobson's had just added the line, and I went on over to check it out.
Although I didn't like the eye shadow, too sparkly for me, I did take a look at the rest of the products. Almost completely out of the blush I have been using lately, and as typically happens, discovering that the color is now discontinued, I was in the market for a new one.
Packaging
Bobbi Brown's packaging is fairly minimal. Rather than coming in an intricate compact type case, Bobbi Brown Blush comes in a small, simple, round, container, much like what less expensive eye shadow colors come in, only larger. I find this perfectly suitable for my needs because it doesn't take up much room in my makeup case or purse. It also doesn't include the usual mirror or brush, which are both absolutely fine with me. I never use those cheap brushes anyway, throwing them out in favor of my own, high-quality brush, and I prefer to use either my bathroom mirror, or the mirror I carry with me in my purse.
The packaging is also fairly classy; a plain black case with small white lettering and a simple gold band around the edge.
About The Product
Bobbi Brown Blush comes in 9 shades, enough for a choice, but not too many to induce the mass confusion I often find when selecting cosmetics. They ranged from neutrals, to pinks, to orange/browns. I chose the deepest, currant, and brownish/reddish/orange shade.
The salesclerk told me, and the website reiterated, that the blush is sheer, and allows your skin to show through. It's not a lie. The blush appears very natural, and looks more like a natural flush than a cosmetic sitting on the surface of your skin. The one drawback is that the pigment is intense, meaning that unless applied carefully with a light hand, you will end up looking like Betty Boop.
I find that the blush lasts throughout the day, doesn't cake or streak, and has been gentle on my skin.
A Little Bit About The Company
Bobbi Brown, the company, began with Bobbi Brown, the woman. Beginning with a degree in theatrical makeup, Bobbi eventually became a much sought after makeup artist, with a long list of famous clients in the modeling and acting field. She created this company to share her products and beauty philosophy with the masses.
Bobbi advocates a natural, classic type of look.
Price
The cost was $19.00. Although my usage has been for little more than a month, it would appear that this will last several months at least.
Where You Can Buy Bobbi Brown Cosmetics?
They are available at most better department stores, and online at http://www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com.
The Verdict
The blush was the first Bobbi Brown product that I tried. It was a good introduction. It looks great, performs great, and agrees with my skin. Who could ask for more?
