Pros:Refreshing, a good thirst quencher
Cons:Perhaps a little bland
The Bottom Line: Not the most interesting English bitter, but a great thirst quenching session beer
Boddingtons has been around for more than 200 years, and is well known for its creamy head and smooth body. It is now sold in over 30 countries worldwide, and can be drunk on tap in places as far afield as New Zealand and Hong Kong.
boddingtons becamr part of the Whitbread Beer Company in 1989, which in turn, in 2000, became part of Interbrew, the famous Belgian brewer.
Thanks to the companys marketing, Boddingtons has become well known as the cream of Manchester. In fact one of their TV adverts humourosly depicts the beer being sold from an ice cream truck - with or without a chocolate flake!
Boddingtons was one of the first brewers to develop the widget can thingy (which really does make a beer seem like ice cream) - They were also one of the first brewers to supply British draught ale to beach resorts of the Med.
I've just spent a week in the Algarve and after sampling some of the local offerings: Sagres, Super Bock and Tagus etc., all I can say is THANK FLIP.
Talk about gaseous, fizzy, tasteless mouthwash...no, I won't.
I'll talk about the BODDS.
But first......
A man was sitting at a bar when an exceptionally gorgeous & sexy young woman entered. She was so striking that the man could not take his eyes away from her.
The young woman noticed his overly-attentive stare & walked directly towards him. Before he could offer his apologies for being so rude, the young woman said to him, "I'll do anything, absolutely anything, that you want me to do, no matter how kinky, for £100 on one condition."
Astonished, the man asked what the condition was. The young woman replied, "You have to tell me what you want me to do in just three words."
The man considered her proposition for a moment, withdrew his wallet from his pocket & slowly counted out five £20 notes, which he pressed into the young woman's hand. He looked into her eyes & slowly, meaningfully said, "Paint my house!"

The Pour
Best served cool - just below room temperature, it pours
very foamy and creamy, the milkiness gives way rather slowly to reveal a pale golden, slightly amber colour with a creamy-white, foamy head. The head lasts quite well and leaves a lace effect on the glass.
Theres not a strong aroma from this ale; a little floral hops, but mostly a sweet maltiness.
The Taste
Its very smooth and creamy, but fairly light bodied. Initially the flavour is Initially the flavour is of chocolate malt and there's also some caramel. There's not a lot of hop flavour here, just a vague floral, grassy note leading to some dryness in the finish, with a brief hint of bitterness. This is not really a beer which will stretch the limits of your tastebuds.
The Verdict
This is a pleasant, easy drinking, nicely satisfying, everyday beer. With an alcohol content of 3.8%, its a beer that can be drunk in quantity on a night at the local. Its also a good thirst quencher, a refreshing pint that calls for another and another and maybe just one more after that and then....
