| erinhenderson's Full Review: BodyBugg Personal Calorie Management System |
The BodyBugg armband is a very effective tool in weight management. It uses variances in body temperature and other measurements to calculate calories burned and steps taken.
The Armband and Unit
I bought my armband as an accompaniment to my cardio training. I was very impressed by the armband itself. It is comfortable to wear - I can wear it all day and barely notice that it's there.
The armband is exactly that - a stretchy band intended for wear on the upper arm. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is very visible when wearing short sleeves or sleeveless tops, and the thick black band is very noticeable. Unfortunately, it's not designed to use on other appendages, such as a leg. Other than that, it's very easy to use.
The BodyBugg unit plugs into a computer using the included USB cable. You can use the website to download and view your stats, including calories burned, steps taken, and time of activity.
The USB connection is also how the unit recharges. It can hold approximately 7 days of activity on one charge.
The Software
The BodyBugg armband includes a free trial period for the Apex software. This is a website-based program that takes in the data from the armband, then tracks and displays it.
Using the software, you can set up a program based on your goals. For example, you could create a program to gain weight, lose weight, or improve performance in a sport. The application then tailors your program based on your goals. You also have the option to view food recommendations and create exercise and nutrition plans.
The armband also keeps track of the number of steps taken. It seems pretty much accurate when compared to other pedometers.
In addition to downloading your data from the armband, you also have the option to manually enter exercise information using the software.
Unfortunately, the armband doesn't track your calories eaten. However, the software includes a nutritional information tracker. When you manually enter this information, the software makes it very clear whether you have a calorie deficiency or surplus - you can use this information to predict a weight loss or gain. The best part of this is that when you weigh in, you can display an adjusted view of your daily calories based on your actual weight gain or loss, which allows you to review your actual performance.
The Digital Display (sold separately)
There is an optional accessory for the BodyBugg armband. It is a digital display that allows you to view your results in real time. I think this is an invaluable tool for use with the armband. Check epinions.com for reviews of that item.
