| arathi's Full Review: Body by Jake Bun & Thigh Rocker |
Osteoarthritis runs in my family. I have known for some time that building strong muscles can be one of the best preventive measures against developing osteoarthritis. Strong and lean muscle help support joints that can in turn prevent cartilage damage.
That is probably the reason why strength training is heavily advised and emphasized, especially for women. Moreover, having lean muscle rather than fat on our bodies increases our metabolism that can in turn help in weight loss.
In spite of having this knowledge, I tended to avoid the strength training machines at the gym, preferring the cardio machines. I just felt that going from one machine to another to work on different muscle groups took way too much time. And all those people with beautifully sculpted muscles, who seemed to be permanent fixtures in this section of the gym, really intimidated me!
While watching a TV infomercial late one night, my husband and I decided to buy the Bun and Thigh Rocker. We usually do not order anything from TV infomercials, but this machine seemed like a good choice because I especially wanted to build muscle on the lower half of my body. And of course, they had the 30 day money back guarantee.

Product Claims
Sit Down, Kick Back and Rock Your Way to Lean, Beautiful, Sexy Hips, Thighs and Buns in just 3 Minutes a Day with the Bun & Thigh Rocker., is the very enticing Bun and Thigh Rocker ad. The Bun and Thigh Rocker claims to target six of the many different muscle groups against resistance on the lower half of the body, all at the same time.
Their claim to fame is a system called the power arc. According to them, The secret is the specially engineered, revolutionary arcing motion called the Power Arc. It is a near perfect bio-kinetic movement that moves your body against resistance in one safe, easy, natural arcing motion.
They proclaim that with the Bun and Thigh Rocker (BTR) , trimming and toning the hips and thighs, and tightening the butt is a breeze. Also just by changing resistance, this machine could be turned into a low impact, and fat burning aerobic machine.
Product Details
The BTR system includes the following:
The Bun & Thigh Rocker with four PowerFlex bands that can be combined to offer different levels of resistance.
The 3 Minutes to a Beautiful Body Fitness Program booklet that contains assembly, storage and exercise instructions. The booklet explains the workings of the Power Arc movement, and includes intermediate and advanced exercises.
The Bun & Thigh Rocker Cardio Kit includes The Fast & Easy Cardio Workouts Manual that explains the benefits of aerobic exercise, and the importance of monitoring your heart rate. The manual also contains instructions about the cardio exercises that can be performed with the BTR. The kit also includes two blue lighter weights cardio bands to help turn the BTR into a cardio machine.
The 10 Day Size Down Program Fat Burning workouts video, which shows the correct way to perform various exercises on the BTR to target different muscle groups.
Installation
Our BTR arrived just four days after we had ordered it. The installation instructions were pretty clear, was relatively easy to install, and it took my husband about 30 minutes to get it done. After getting installed the BTR approximately occupies a 5.5 feet by 3 feet space.
My Experience
We have owned the BTR for exactly a year now, and I have used this machine pretty regularly during this year. I resisted the urge to write this review earlier several times, because I wanted to stabilize my experience with the machine, and wanted the review itself to reflect objectivity.
Now, I was not a very heavy person to begin with; my height is 5 feet and 2 inches, and my weight fluctuated between 115-120 pounds. But, I still had problems with the lower half of my body. After giving birth to my son five and a half years back, I turned into somewhat of a pear shape. The upper half of my body was exactly a size smaller than the lower half. And, yes there was also the issue of some cellulite.
After a years worth of regular use, my honest opinion is that I really like the BTR . Now, my hips and legs have a lot more tone and definition. The cellulite is barely visible now, and my legs look longer and leaner. When I administer the pinch test any where on my legs and hips now, my fingers cannot hold on to anything. Even though I have only lost a couple of pounds, my clothes fit me much better. Also since the exercises are done on an incline, the machine does not put much pressure on the knees.
My routine is very simple. Since I have been doing yoga for quite some time now, I still use yoga as stretching before I work out on the BTR. Then I do a 12 minute routine on the BTR two to three times a week. I do four repetitions of 15 times each, of four of the exercises listed in the manual.
I think that with the higher resistance bands, the stronger quad muscles get a good workout. I use lower resistance bands to work out the back of the thighs and the glutes. I have not used this machine for a cardio workout since I prefer the other options I have.
Final Note:
I have placed the BTR in our bonus room next to a window that has a very nice view of the Cascade Mountains. I think the placement of the machine has really helped me in keeping up with my workouts.
In my objective opinion, the BTR is an extremely efficient way to build muscle on the lower half of your body. Now, if only I could find something as efficient to target those abs!
