This game is great. My family loves games--Monopoly, Clue, Scattergories, you name it, we play it. Boggle is one of my favorites because I have always been able to handle it, even as a little kid.
Let it be known that my mother always makes me cry when we play Scrabble. She is a 54-year-old publisher who claims to have majored in the basic discipline of English, although I maintain that she majored in seven letter words. How else could she beat me every time? The most probable reason is that Boggle is a helluva lot less challenging than Scrabble. So when we play Boggle, we both do pretty well. I feel good about myself. Hey, sometimes I even win.
Boggle involves sixteen dice with letters on each side. You shake them up in a plastic container (which is really loud and therefore really fun to do), and then attempt to settle them at the bottom. That's pretty challenging, but with practice and the mastery of a few wrist wiggling maneuvers, it can be done. Then you turn over the timer, take off the top, and try to find as many words as you can. Practically anyone who can read can play this game. And it's easy to level the playing field when both children and adults are playing by giving different point values to different length words for players that are at different skill levels. It's hard to give kids handicaps when playing Scrabble without LETTING the younger players win.
Boggle is kind of like Yahtzee in that you'll enjoy it if you like games and shaking things up. It also helps for you to be able to read and write English. If you've never been much of a words person, you may not enjoy this game. Or maybe this game will make you a words person. Who knows?
