Pros: No scratching, no dyes, perfumes, chlorine, cheap, earth friendly AND it actually works!
Cons: None that I can think of.
The Bottom Line: It's an inexpensive way to keep the cookware and appliances you've invested in looking like new. It's readily available in supermarkets, and hardware and drug stores.

A few months ago I finally got ridiculously great deal on a stainless teakettle from Alessi that normally sells for about 200 dollars (it's a very unusual design). It was a used item and when I got it, there were marks on it that looked like water marks so I tried cleaning it with soap and water and the marks were still there in addition to a rainbow coloured haze that I imagine came from the soap. I eyed the steel wool for a second and then put it out of my mind knowing it would probably scratch my treasure.
After doing a little research on the internet (what DID we do before we got online?) I read a number of people were using Bon Ami (and the more expensive Barkeeper's Friend) on their stainless cookware (All-Clad recommends it for their cookware) with great results so I looked for it in the household section of the supermarket and bought a can.
When I tried it I noted it was a superfine powder and on the can it guaranteed it wouldn't scratch anything I used it on so I sprinkled some on a damp sponge and rubbed down the kettle.
It did everything it promised...the water marks were gone, the rainbow haze was gone. The kettle looked like new by the time I was done. I went on to clean my cooktop, stainless steel sink and anything else that had little spots that had been difficult to get off and it worked like a charm and rinsed away easily with not a single scratch. It's even good on glassware.
Now I know that there are other products on the market that can do this...Comet for instance, but those other products can't make the claim that they're environmentally friendly as Bon Ami can and they cost about the same, a plus in my book.
I highly recommend this product for all kinds of household jobs particulary for those who are sensitives to dyes, chlorine and/or perfumes because it doesn't contain any.
