There were Gods and Goddesses. Now there is... Acheron.
Written: Feb 10 '12 (Updated Feb 11 '12)
Pros:It reveals the truth about Acheron, how he lived and how he came to be.
Cons:It may be good, but gosh, is it one thick book.
The Bottom Line: I reccomend this book to everyone who is old enough to understand what it means. It's a wonderful read.
I would be lying if I said that this wasn't the most awaited of all Sherrilyn Kenyon's books. I, myself, have read this book a couple times over and each time, I manage to find something new. I just could not put this book down.
Now, who, out of all of us who have read the Dark-Hunter series have not wondered at least once about who Acheron was? Or how he turned out the way he was? I know I have at least half a dozen times. And this book shows exactly the pain he went through, and what he had to endure.
The only problem was just that this book was a bit tedious in some parts and it dragged on a bit long but other than that, it was great! In the first half of this book, Sherrilyn writes in first person, through the eyes of Acheron's sister, Ryssa. The gruesome details she includes is enough to make anyone reading the book feel immediately pained at what he had suffered.
From the very beginning, where Ryssa finds him being treated as a sex slave by his uncle and to end, when Apollo unleashes his wrath, I felt like I was right there with him, experiencing it all. Including when Artemis pushed her way into his heart and broke it, leaving him wounded. We feel his pain as he loses his brother and his sister to an angry God. We feel it as he is reborn in the deepest caves of the Underworld.
In the second half, Sherrilyn is back to her usual third person writing format, and it shows what happens after he is turned into a God with vengence on his mind. He falls in love with a human and he shows the compassionate side of him, long buried after being hurt so many times by the people he loved.
The skillfully written action/battle scenes mixed in with the romance makes the entire story a full package, designed to please the most cruel of sadists and the most hopeless of romantics.
This just may be the best novel Kenyon has written yet.
Acheron had me flipping pages until the wee hours of the morning, eager to find out what happened next. I almost devoured this book completely as soon as I picked it up from a bookstore!
And I guarentee, you'll do the same.
