Pros: Beautifully and originally written with philosophical and political insight.
Cons: It can be confusing, and the ending happens quite suddenly.
The Bottom Line: If you think that you're smart enough to handle a political and philosophical book, then read this. It's enough to keep your brain racing every page.
Anthem is written with opinions withheld in the great fiction writer's mind. Equality tries so hard to fit in, to be like his brothers. He transgresses ever so slightly and one move changes his whole perspective.
This book is about the horrors of objectivism and shows what would happen if this thing was to become real to us. I read it along with my honors English class, and most of us enjoyed it. I really appreciated Ayn Rand for explaining her theory with a fiction story. Even if you didn't know much about the objectivism, the story illustrates it very clearly and gives you some understanding of it.
It has a simple plot; however, the language can be quite confusing. It's probably made for more intelligent readers. I also think the ending was too quick, as it jumbled together and gave too much information in too short a period of time.
The book is still short and shouldn't take too long to read. I liked Anthem, and if you read it, you might get the same reaction and emotion as I did.
