I read this novel just by chance of finding it in the library and being interested.  Little did I know that it was the fifth book in Christine Feehan's Carpathian novels.  This novel focuses on Julian Savage who falls in love with Desari after hearing her sing.  Both are Carpathians living in away from their kin.  Desari has power and strength equal to Julian's; Carpathian males are not used to dealing with Carpathian women who have a power that is equal to their own.  The first time Julian hears Desari sing, his emotions are awakened and he is drawn to him.  Desari is his perfect mate, possibly more: she could be the one to save his soul.

The characters are developed in an interesting way that shows a deep interaction between them.  The most interesting I found was the sisterly dynamic of Desari and Syndil as well as the dynamic of Julian and Darius.  The dynamic is different between the two, but also very real and amusing.  They are characters that ou can relate to on a level of desiring to find love, and the fear to let in it sometimes. The family unit of Desari is something I enjoyed.  It showed the importance the Carpathians placed on family and protecting their loved ones.

 Throughout the story as Julian and Desari's love grows, Julian must also protect Desari from those who wish to do her harm.   The story is well planned and well written.  It is one of those books in a series that can stand alone, but also sets the stage for future novels in the series.  The novel is a roller coaster of emotions for the characters and sometimes the readers as well. 

It is not just a story of finding love, but it is also a story of light balancing darkness, love, peace, and forgivness.  It displays the importance of trust, sacrifice and honor within a relationship as well as within your own family.   The story is not just a love story between Desari and Julian, but also the story of one family coming together to protect and save one of their own.  It is an amazing story and I look forward to reading the other stories from Christine Feehan.
