I bought High School Musical 3 Senior Year: Making Memories for our daughter to put in her Easter basket last year.  The list price is $3.99 but I bought it at Wal-Mart for $3.00.  This is a red paperback book with 23 pages in it.  It's also based on the new High School Musical movie from Disney.

Making Memories

This book is about what is going on with all the kids from East High in High School Musical 3.  It's pretty much a short summary of the High School Musical 3 movie.  Troy meets Gabriella at a ski resort where they sang together.  Troy found out that Gabriella was going to be going to his school.  Troy is the captain of the Wildcats' basketball team and Taylor wanted Gabriella to join the Scholastic Decathlon.  Gabriella was becoming pretty popular.

Then it goes on to tell you how Kelsi was writing the new school musical and Troy and Gabriella decided to try out.  Sharpay was kind of upset because she and her brother Ryan were always the leads in previous high school plays.  The basketball team was also surprised that Troy was going to be in the musical and Gabriella was supposed to be focusing on the Scholastic Decathlon.  Now they have a lot on their plates.  Are they going to be able to pull off the musical and still win the basketball championship and the Scholastic Decathlon?

The story leads up to the graduation.  Can Sharpay get her jealousy of Gabriella under control?  Prom is coming up so who does Troy ask to go with him?  Gabriella or Sharpay?

My Thoughs............

My daughter is 8 years old and loves High School Musical.  I thought this would be a great book to pick up when I saw it.  This book is great for a first or second grader to read as long as they are reading pretty well on their own.  There isn't tons of text on every page but it's not like those early reader books.  On each page there are 2-4 long sentences on each page.  The text is easy to read and there aren't any humongous words or anything.  I thought the story was great the way they did it.  It's about the movie but it's a summary of what happened which makes it easier for those readers who aren't really ready for chapter books.  Of course now my daughter is into reading chapter books and even though she is, she still likes to read her shorter books.

I thought the pictures were pretty cool also because they are like real pictures.  They look like snapshots or screen shots from the actual movie.  Even if your child has not seen High School Musical 3, the story is really easy to follow.  The story is short and sweet and gets to the point still letting you know everything that happens.  I recommend this book to any High School Musical fan whether they can read it themselves or not.  Like I said, it's easy for a first or second grader to read depending on their reading level and it's easy to follow the story if it's being read to them.  The pictures also make it easy to follow if your child has seen the movie.
