Product Rating:
Pros: Romantic post-Crusades tale of love and intrigue told in fast-moving smooth style.
Cons: Probably won't learn anything about history you don't already know, but will absorb atmosphere.
The Bottom Line: This lovely, light-reading Medieval romance novel contains fascinating characters and interesting situations. Not a lot of historical even detail, but rings of authenticity nonetheless.

Yes! If you’re in need of an escape from the daily grind, here ya go!
Though I must admit that I usually like a nice, thick, factual history-laden novel, I’m not so snobbish that I’m above reading something that’s purely escape fiction. Especially when penned by wonderful Woodiwiss! I’ll miss her so….
Everlasting is pure escape fiction, a Medieval novel whose plot can be summed up as Boy Meets Girl, and roughly 500 pages later, Boy Wins Girl. Or perhaps Handome Dangerous But Charming Prince meets Gorgeous But Poor Princess, Multiple Misunderstandings Ensue, Girl Gets The Wrong Man, Loses Him, Continues to Misunderstand Handsome Prince, Eventually is Forced Into Situations That Clear Up Misunderstandings, and FINALLY Handsome Prince and Beautiful Princess Get Each Other, and Live Happily Ever After with Lots of Riches.
The characters in this long but very fast-reading novel are delightful – our Princess has strong moral codes that constantly put her in various quandaries, and the typically romance-novel-handsome Prince has a little bit of bad-boy veneer over a true and faithful heart. So what could go wrong? Read the 500+ pages and find out!
For the most part the plot moves right along and is pretty believable. It’s set in Britain on the border with Scotland, less than a century after the Norman Conquest. There are places in the story where Woodiwiss makes a little too much of the thoughts going through Princess's head (too much repetition, drawn out), but gosh, what else did they have available to while away the hours back then – no HD TV or anything!
This book was a joy to read and warmed a couple of cold nights for me! (Woodiwiss did not pander to the ladies who like graphic sex in their romances). And, should you think only females read these novels, one of my medical doctors was a huge fan until his death a few years back! Great literature, perhaps not. But years from now, I believe this author’s works will be viewed as a fine example of typical escape romance works of our time. Especially for those of us who prefer longish novels!
Steeped in passion and danger, "Everlasting" is the story of the beautiful Berengaria, who is forced into a terrible marriage with a wealthy and nefar...More at HotBookSale
