blueworld52's Full Review: Doreen Virtue - Healing With the Angels Oracle Car...
Doreen Virtue's 44-card Angel Oracle deck is not only beautiful, it's helpful. Your angels are around you all the time, but for them to help you-you need to ask, otherwise they're powerless in everyday situations. These colorful oracle cards are a wonderful way to find out what your angels have to say to you, as most of us can't carry on a conversation with our angels.
The cards are bigger than the average tarot cards, if you're familiar with tarot cards. At first when I bought this deck I was looking for a more positive alternative to tarot cards, which hadn't been exactly enlightening at the time. The angels give only positive messages, as they're all about love, light, and guidance - so don't worry, the angels aren't going to point out the problems, they'll just give you solutions to problems and help you create a more positive life.
The deck comes with a guidebook, but it's not like other guidebooks, which is another thing I really liked about Doreen Virtue's work. It's not too small and flimsy, making it easy to work with, and the font isn't too dark, so it's not intimidating in that sense (in case anyone else gets intimidated by dark fonts like me!). The author begins with instruction on how to work with the cards and your angels, and how to give angel readings to other people. Then there are descriptions of four spreads...not illustrations though, but not to worry, they're pretty self-explanatory. Then comes the general meanings of each of the cards.
Although the author describes these as general, don't make the mistake of thinking they're just some key words that you have to make-do with. Each card is pictured in black and white next to its title. Underneath the title is the Card Meaning, where the author sums up in a sentence or two what the card is all about. Underneath that are two paragraphs, telling you what your angels are communicating to you and giving you advice on how you can help them help you and make your life more positive.
Take for example my favorite card: Enchantment. This card is one of the most vivid cards in the deck. It pictures a beautiful tan unicorn, pawing the rich, green grass, behind him is a tree, and behind that is a beautiful blue sky. It appears that he is on an island, behind all of this is sky-blue water and another small island, and in the far distance a beautiful white mountain. Above the island the unicorn is on flies a beautiful white swan. Each card also has a border, this one is deep blue and green, as they all match the illustration. Here's what it says in the guidebook about this card:
"Card Meaning: Recapture your childlike sense of wonder and awe. View the world as a magical place.
Remember when you were a child and how magical the world seemed? The sense of enchantment is the spirit of our inner child. Somewhere along the way, did you lose that sense of wonder?
The angels ask you to recapture your magical sense by remembering that a miraculous power surrounds you. Ask God and the angels to help you with anything - small or large. Don't worry - you aren't removing angels from "more important" tasks when you ask for their help with everyday situations. They truly want to support you so that you are free of worries. In that way, you exude the joy and wonder of children who trust that they are taken care of. And when you are joyful, your Divine light inspires everyone who sees you."
One thing, and I believe the only thing, I didn't like about the guidebook is how Doreen makes references to God so much. As someone that believes in a Goddess also, it was kind of distracting. And I also don't believe that God is in charge of the angels, or anyone for that matter.... But after a while of working with the cards, I got over this. Besides, being tolerant and accepting of other people's views and beliefs is extremely important - this taught me a wonderful lesson, one that I was surprised I needed to learn in the first place.
And with that, here are the names of all the 44 cards: Abundance, Answered Prayer, Archangel Michael, Balance, Blessings, Body Care, Celebration, Children, Divine Guidance, Divine Timing, Dreams, Emerging, Enchantment, Focus, Forgiveness, Freedom, Friendship, Guardian Angel, Harmony, Healing, Ideas and Inspiration, Intention, Listening, Manifestation, Meditation, Miracles, Music, Nature, New Beginnings, New Love, Playfulness, Power, Retreat, Romance, Self-acceptance, Serenity, Signs, Soulmate, Spiritual Growth, Study, Support, Surrender & Release, Trust, Truth & Integrity.
