Freak369's Full Review: Scott Altmann - Hearts: Glow-in-the-dark Tattoos
Dover Publications has a lot of interesting titles; while most of what they have on their website is educational based there are some extremely fun activity kits, coloring books and projects for kids of all ages to enjoy. I've bought more than a few of their temporary tattoo books over the past few years and I have learned one thing from them, if you don't expect too much from them then you won't be disappointed. This is a two page booklet with twelve glow in the dark heart themed temporary tattoos. The description of it is accurate and as I said, if you don't expect too much from it, you won't be disappointed. These can be applied to any part of the body [external parts please] and can last up to a day if you are careful with them. They are applied the same way as other temporary tattoos and when they are exposed to light for a few minutes they will have a slight glow to them when you enter a dark room or turn off the lights.
To get the best results from these temporary tattoos make sure that you are working with clean skin. Cut out the design from the sheet and place it on the skin. Use a wet clean paper towel or wash cloth and wet the back of it. Allow it to remain in place for thirty seconds then peel off the backing sheet slowly. You want to remove it slowly so that you don't rip or tear the edges. After that allow it to dry and you are ready to rock. Kids can apply these to their arms, legs or shoulders but please keep in mind that these are temporary tattoos and you shouldn't let them go crazy with them. There are twelve designs per book / booklet so it is an inexpensive thing to pick up for slumber parties or girlie get togethers.
The quality isn't the best but I have seen some that are absolutely horrible. Since these are heart themed they are 100% girlie so good luck trying to get them on a boy of any age unless they are sleeping. There are four larger hearts and eight smaller designs that are heart themed. The cutest ones are the pink and red ones but the solid red ones show up best if you have tanned skin. The material used to make the temporary tattoos is non-toxic so they are safe for everyone to enjoy. I wouldn't recommend putting these on kids under the age of four as they might start scratching at them or picking the design off. That won’t harm them [the child] but it could irritate their skin. To remove the tattoo use a cotton ball and some baby oil and wipe clean.
The longest these lasted on Annabelle and her friends was three hours. I knew that going into it so it wasn't a big let down. They have had other temporary tattoos from Dover and knew that with them running around outside and sweating, the cute heart themed designs wouldn't last long. They did have fun running in and out of the house to see how much glow power they could get from the stickers so the $1.50 that I paid for them wasn't a complete waste. The tattoos are heavy in pink and purple so they are great for little girls that are in to those two colors. The only one that they had trouble with was the Love banner, the edges of it wouldn't skin to the skin and it ended up peeling off about 15 minutes after it was applied.
This type of book / booklet from Dover can be hard to find in retail bookstores. Some places have a small selection of the pocket sized or Little Activity books but usually the only time you are going to come across something like this in a retail store is around Valentine's Day. It has a suggested retail price of $1.50 and that isn't bad for what you are getting. It breaks down to about .13 cents a tattoo. Dover has a lot of interesting temporary tattoos in their online catalog, some of which go great with this set of hearts. If you need more than twelve tattoos, that is an option – just get or order similar themes so kids can mix and match them and have some fun with them.
