Hillary Fan? Better Skip This Book (The rest of us..read on)

Pros:Makes you think twice about the Clinton era
Cons:Makes you think twice about the Clinton era

So..I was rushing through Logan Airport when it occurred to me that I needed a book to read on the plane. On the Best Seller rack was "Hell To Pay: The unfolding of Hillary Rodham Clinton" by Barbara Olsen. I couldn't resist.

Don't ask me why I wonder what makes this woman tick. Psychologists might tell me that I project my values on her. Friends tell me that I'm a working woman and I should appreciate her contributions more. The reality is that I just can't understand what agenda she could have that is so important that she needs Bill Clinton to help her achieve it. Why put up with the humiliation of all that cheating? To keep the family whole for Chelsea? But, hey, that's just me. Let me give you some more information on this book that may help you decide whether to read it or not.

This book is written by Barbara Olsen who has served as an attorney for the Department of Justice, as a congressional investigator, and a general counsel in the United States Senate. I should also mention that there is a tear-out card in the back of this book for "Building Your Own Library of Freedom" with the Conservative Book Club. (You know, pick any 3 books for just $1).

"Hell to Pay" looks at Hillary Rodham Clinton - a woman "who's lust for power exceeds that of her husband." It looks at a woman who switched from being a Goldwater girl to being a sixties radical. It shows how a woman who claims she's not just some little "Tammy Wynette who stands by her man" covers up for every little "bimbo eruption" her husband gets himself involved in. And who, with supreme irony, wins the world's sympathy as the "victim" in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

The book says that long before Hillary announced a run for the New York Senate, she had plans to run something really big. But why paraphrase it, when I can quote the book:

"Indeed there are rumors in Washington, surely untrue, that she is not at all disturbed by the troubles Al Gore is experiencing, because if a Republican is elected in 2000, she can be the Democratic presidential heir apparent in 2004. That is if Al Gore is unsuccessful in 2000."

and there is more:

"Hillary's embryonic Senate campaign has shown that she is determined to let nothing stand in the way of the next step in her ambitious career. She has also proven that for those who are in her way or who fail to help her, there will be 'hell to pay'. Never have the stakes been so high -- both for her and for her opportunity to change this nation.

The Clinton years might seem like a long national nightmare of scandal, sleaze, and ruthless acquisition of power. Hillary herself is the link from the excesses of the Watergate staff, to the Whitewater fiasco, to abuses of executive power, to the defense for her husband's perjury and obstruction of justice. But now it is Hillary's turn. The Clinton era is far from over and Hillary's ambitions are far from satisfied."

(Spooky. Maybe this book should have been written by Stephen King.)

Agree or disagree? This is one book you might want to check out. Either it will give you more to dislike about Hillary or it will at least let you know what the opposition is thinking.
