This is a review of a book that deals with bondage, submission, domination, role playing and other avenues of kink. If the subject of the book shocks you then suffice it to say the review of it will be just as offensive. Translation? Don’t read it.

I walked in to the shop and saw one of the guys reading a book. That would be the equivalent of you walking in to your home and seeing ten monkeys having a tea party while wearing pink tutus, eating biscuits and watching cartoons. The guys at the shop don't read, well, they read comics and graphic novels but that is their literary stretch. When I saw cover and title of the book I rolled my eyes. It could only mean one thing; he met a new chick and wanted to impress her with his sexual prowess. When he started grunting and groaning I was ready to shoot him with a squirt gun that we keep loaded at all times to shoosh away the stray cats from the garbage cans. His monosyllabic mumbles weren't a sign of excitement but rather confusion. He based his book purchase solely on the title and not on the content. The phrase "never judge a book by its cover" should also apply to book titles. This is not a book about learning to screw, fornicate, procreate, hide the salami or any other euphemism for sex. It's about bondage and how to go about finding a chick that is in to it.

I will save you three hours of reading time and ten dollars for the book.

If you want to find a chick that is in to bondage, domination, submissiveness, kink, leather or anything outside of the vanilla world of missionary position sex you don't need a book. You need to pick up a local copy of a swingers guide and read the personal ads.

You don't buy a book about BDSM and learn how to "do it"; that's kind of like becoming a doctor without ever having used a cadaver to learn from. You will be book smart but if you happen to get a female that's interested in being dominated one of two things will happen; you will go completely overboard and ruin the experience for her or you will come off looking like a complete moron and she will hog tie you in your bedroom and leave with your wallet. Sure, you can read this to get a feel of what bondage, domination and submission is about but without having a willing partner to experiment with its almost worthless. That means someone that is going to laugh when something doesn’t go as planned or you end up farting at the most inopportune moment. The bulk of the book is a walk through about how to be dom without coming off like a dick; there is a fine line between the two and most men never really seem to master the technique. Having a slave is one thing but breaking a strong willed woman and having her do whatever you want are two completely different things. One is eager to please while the other gets off on the feeling of being in control.

You aren’t going to learn anything mind blowing in this book. If you can stop thinking with your penis for a couple of minutes you'll realize that it doesn’t take much to have a women following you around like a lost puppy. Maybe that's why "thorndaddy" didn’t use his real name when publishing this book. It's almost a complete joke. I've read more than a few books about BDSM and this is comical; there are parts of it that are meant to be funny but when you read the whole book and it comes off like a parody of a cheesy version of Bachelor Party, well, you feel cheated. When I finished the book I read a few online reviews to see what others had to say and surprise surprise, there wasn't a negative review to be found. If anything the reviews of the book were all glowing testimonials as to how wonderful and insightful it was and how it can help men of all ages learn to truly pleasure a woman. To me, well, that seems like a bit of a stretch. I won’t say that trees died needlessly for this to be published but I didn't feel like my sexual IQ got bumped up a level. 

From A Chick Point of View: I'm open minded when it comes to sex. I've been around the block but I'm no where close to be a mudflap. Books like this do have some socially redeeming points to them if you are interested in learning techniques and how to move out of the basic-sex mode. Chances are if you have experimented with things like anal sex, threesomes, light bondage, sex in public and bisexual encounters then nothing is this book is going to seem shocking or out of your sexual realm. The title of the book really makes you think that it is something that is going to turn you into some super sex monster but a bulk of it is bondage themed but not so much so that you are going to want to build a dungeon in your basement or spare bedroom.

While it might seem like I am trashing this book, there are some good points to it. It doesn't endorse or promote rape. There is a difference between rape and rape role playing. The book does a good job of providing kinky situations without crossing the line into extreme avenues that would send most first-times running out of your house half naked. The book also has some nice suggestions on how to 'feel someone out' to see what their limits are. With chapters titled "F*cking Your B*tches With Respect" and "How to Keep Women in Line" there are bound to be people who will read this and think that it is completely demoralizing towards women. No two people are going to have the same likes and dislikes; "thorndaddy" tries to put some humor into things which could easily seem offensive and condescending to some people. Suffice it to say, if you are not open minded then don't read this book. On a side note I find it funny that a man would write a book with a chapter entitled "What Women Want". Sure, there is a preface by a female [who was too sheepish to use her real name] but come on, I'm a chick and there are times when I have no idea what women want.

Will this book get you laid? Probably not. If you don't have the self confidence to pull in chicks to start with chances are this isn’t going to give you an edge in increasing the notches on your headboard. It can help you with transitions from "normal" sex to kinkier things like handcuffs, bondage role play and how to dominate someone without degrading them [feel free to laugh at that one] but anyone that has ever been hog tied knows that if you see a Polaroid of yourself in that position, well, it's never all that flattering. Humor can go a long way when breaking the ice but the last thing you want to do is crack a joke when you are putting someone in a submissive position. Saying, "Wouldn't it be funny if I left you here like this" to a someone that's never been tied up or handcuffed to a bed will end the festivities post haste.

Can chicks learn anything from this book? Yes. No. Maybe. Some of the information like positions and actions / reactions could apply to either sex. I have a pretty sick mind so I can read the most hard core stuff and snicker about it. Some of the things could be twisted a little for bisexual encounters but most bi or bi-curious people are going to have other things on their mind outside of the bondage arena. The people that wrote reviews about this must have listened to the podcast and audio book instead of reading the book. For beginners to bondage that just have no idea what it is al about this might be a good primer but you really have to take most of it with a grain of salt.
