| jander01's Full Review: Peter H. Duesberg - Inventing the AIDS Virus |
AIDS is the epidemic of our generation. It as been attributed to the death of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide and it has touched me very close to home. I have dedicated the past 10 years of my life to researching and helping people with HIV/AIDS and never once doubted that the disease existed. Peter Duesberg makes me second guess everything that I assumed to know about this virus. This book has changed my life and my entire prospective when dealing with this disease.
Duesberg is the famous and well respected researcher at UC-Berkeley who has championed the theory that AIDS is not viral but conditional. This massive book documents study after study that shows that the immune suppressive characteristics of AIDS are also characteristic of rampant drug use. ********THIS MEANS THAT AIDS IS NOT INFECTIOUS***** This excessive drug use and the toxic build-up of using these hardcore drugs (cocaine, heroin, crack, X, poppers, etc) for years and years forces the immune system to shut down and allow for the opportunistic infections classified as AIDS related to take hold of the body. He also contends that AZT is more harmful than helpful. It, in essence, pushes an immune system that is already weak and vulnerable over the edge. He gives equally comprehensive explanations to why hemophiliacs and people with multiple sexual partners are vulnerable.
Besides presenting the facts and studies to support his idea, Duesberg also details the corruption of scientific research institutions. These institutions, which allot the majority of research funding, prevents dissention by "black-listing" and intimidating researchers who question what is now considered dogma. Gallo's announcement of his "discovery" of an AIDS virus was described as "self-serving and hastily thrown together". Gallo wanted the glory and the scientific community needed a new bandwagon to jump on. Now this jargon of HIV/AIDS is so ingrained in our consciousness, that to think of a possible alternative is blasphemy.
What if everything that science and research has generated about the contraction and spreading of AIDS is completely misguided? Where does that leave us? This is a serious question that we all must consider. This book is amazing. With my years as a Biology Major, I never once heard of such a radical theory, let alone a theory that has so much viable research to back it up. I couldn't stop reading every word.
Though this book may seem too scientific at first glance, it is actually very readable and explains any biological jargon very thoroughly. This book has mass appeal in that AIDS affects all of our lives. If Duesberg's theory is true, than billions of dollars have been misappropriated. We have been wasting years attacking an epidemic from the wrong angle and all the mass hysteria about AIDS as sexually transmitted is wrong and misguided.
