fostrmom2mny's Full Review: Pope Mary Osborne - Stage Fright on a Summer Night...
Magic Tree House is a book series written by Mary Pope Osborne. It is aimed at readers from First Grade – Third Grades. They are chapter books and written with an adventurous flair with a bit of history thrown in. There are a variety of subjects and some of them are continuation from the previous book.
The main characters are 8 year old Jack and his 7 year old sister, Annie. There is a tree house in the woods near their home that is full of books. They discovered that the tree house could transport them to different places and times. All they have to do is to point at a picture and wish to go there. The tree house belongs to Morgan le Fay. Morgan is a magical librarian from the time of King Arthur. She travels through time collecting books. Jack and Annie helped Morgan break a spell and the kids became Master Librarians.
Here is a list of the stories that came before the one, which I purchased.
Book #1 Dinosaurs Before Dark; This is where Jack and Annie discover the tree house in the woods. They travel back to the time of the dinosaurs.
Book #2 The Knight of Dawn; the kids travel back to the time of knights and explore a medieval castle with a hidden passage.
Book #3 Mummies In The Morning; The kids travel to ancient Egypt and get lost in a pyramid when they help a ghost queen.
Book #4 Pirates Past Noon; The kids set out on an adventure where they travel back to a time when Pirates were searching for some buried treasure.
Book #5 Night of the Ninja; The kids go to old Japan and learn the secrets of the ninjas.
Book #6 Afternoon On The Amazon; The kids explore the wild rainforrest in the Amazon and are greeted by giant ants, hungry crocodiles and flesh eating piranhas.
Book #7 Sunset Of The Sabertooth; They go back to the Ice Age to the world of the woolly mammoths, sabertooth tigers, and a mysterious sorcerer.
Book #8 Midnight On The Moon; The kids go forward in time and explore the moon in a moon buggy.
Book #9 Dolphins At Daybreak; When Jack and Annie arrive on a coral reef they find a mini submarine that takes them underwater into the world of sharks and dolphins.
Book #10 Ghost Town At Sundown; This book takes them back to the Wild Wild West where they battle horse thieves, meet a kind cowboy, and get help from a mysterious ghost.
Book #11 Lions At Lunchtime; In the plains of Africa the kids help wild animals cross a rushing river and have a picnic with a Masi warrior.
Book #12 Polar Bears Past Bedtime; They kids travel to the Artic to play with polar bear cubs and need help themselves when they get caught on thin ice.
Book #13 Vacation On The Volcano; They land in Pompeii during Roman times on the very day that Mount Vesuvius erupts!
Book #14 Day Of The Dragon; In ancient China they must free an emperor who burns books.
Book #15 Viking Ships At Sunrise; They visit a monastery in medieval Ireland on the day that Vikings attack!
Book #16 Hour Of The Olympics; They travel back in time to ancient Greece and the first Olympic games.
Book #17 Tonight On The Titanic; The kids go back to the Unsinkable ship and help a couple of third class passenger children find their way to a lifeboat.
Book #17 is the book that I bought for my daughter. So any books after this one, I do not have the information as to titles of context. At the end of each book are additional Facts about the subject matter. I found this particular book interesting myself and I believe that it will be entertaining for kids as well as teaching them facts about History.
Tonight On The Titanic was 71 pages long plus the additional fact page. I bought the book at Walden Books for $3.99 plus tax for the paperback version. Online at WWW.randomhouse.com you can purchase this in a hardback version for $12.99 plus tax and $3.00 shipping. I chose this book for my daughters to read since we are planning on going to Orlando in November and while we are there, I plan on taking them to the Titanic Exhibit. I thought this would give them some curiosity to want to learn more about the Titanic.
Both of my girls have read this book and are looking forward to buying more Magic Tree House books.
