We purchased this silly book called Monkey See Monkey Do used online. I believe it was 50 cents if I remember correctly. It is from the Hello Reader series. A level one book for pre-school through first grade.
About the book: A rhyming story with only 3-5 words on each page. The print is big and bold. A very good book for those starting to read. 30 pages in length.
About the story: This one is hard to write about as it is so short and really just a silly rhyming book. It shows a human family with monkeys in their house. They brush their teeth with the little girl in the story just like people do. They play with the children and do everything just like human children. The rhymes go along with everything the monkeys do. It tells of them doing things in the house, and going to the beach with the family. At the end of the story the monkeys and the children go to sleep. The very last page shows the monkey parents gettting their children and the human parents waving bye. This is the point where it becomes obvious what was going on. The human parents had spent the day babysitting for the monkey mom and dad.
A bit of the story itself: Monkey on the left, Monkey on the right. Monkey in the middle, Monkey out of sight.
The illustrations: They are very silly and cute. The pictures in this book actually tell more of the story then the words do. Just as with the picture at the end of the book when the monkey parents come and get their kids. If it had not been for that picture we would still be wondering why all of the monkeys were there.
What we think: My 6&7 year olds can breeze through this book on their own without any problem at all. I would say it borders on too simple for them. My 3 year old has it memorized now and pretends to read it along with me. Her favorite part is the one that I included in this review. All of my children love the silly monkeys. I like it too because my kids enjoy it and it is a happy and fun book.
Little extras: The first page as a note to parents. It gives ideas for reading to your child and on listening to your child read. The inside front cover has a box where your child puts their name. Also a checklist for your child to mark when they have read the book Once, twice, or again and again. There is a list of Hello Readers on the inside back cover from levels 1,2 & 3.
