Linda Rehberg and Lois Conway - More Bread Machine Magic: More Than 140 New Recipes Fro9m the Authors of Bread Machine Magic for Use in All Types of Sizes of Bread Machines
writer's Full Review: Linda Rehberg and Lois Conway - More Bread Machine...
Thi is my second favorite bread machine cookbook. I use it almost as often as "More Electric Bread," which I wrote about in this review. http://www.epinions.com/content_18657742468
Here's why this is my "second" favorite, and not tops on the list. For one, it's in a regular book binding, which makes it harder to use in the kitchen. I have a cookbook stand which holds my books, and keeps them from getting splattered, so that isn't an issue for me now, but it was when I first got the book, and it shows! I've spilled items on the book, and it's generally showing its age because of kitchen accidents. My "Electric Bread," on the other hand, is just fine, and shows no wear, because it has better features.
This book gives basic information about bread machines in the front, and also tells a little about how the measured the nutritional content of their recipes, which I like. It's all very helpful information, with conversion charts, troubleshooting tips, and much more.
The recipes are easy to follow, and I've had good results from the ones I've tried. Some of my favorites are the "Buttermilk Wheat," "Basic Pizza Dough," and "Aunt Catherine's Buttermilk Rolls." I made those rolls for Christmas dinner, and they turned out perfectly. I use the same recipe and just let it bake for a great buttermilk bread.
I also use the pizza recipe all the time. I make my own pizzas a lot now, since I discovered how easy the dough is to make. I add roasted garlic oil instead of plain olive oil for a nice flavor.
I like this book, but a lot of the recipes are "specialty," in that you take them out of the machine and finish baking them in the oven. That's fun sometimes, but I'm in a hurry sometimes too, and don't want to do that.
The recipes all come in small, medium, and large sizes, so there's a size for every bread machine. Each recipe also has some helpful tips, and comes with nutritional information.
While I like this book a lot, I don't find it as useful as Electric Bread, and I don't use it as much, except for specific recipes, like the Pizza Dough. It offers good recipes, but has a couple of negatives too, that I've mentioned. That's why it's not tops on my list.
For a good, all-around bread machine book though, you can't go wrong with this volume. It includes sourdoughs, and pizza doughs, which Electric Bread doesn't have, and I use it most heavily in those areas. I'd recommend it, but not as highly as Electric Bread.
