The Feminist's Bible

Rated a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Strongly written essays, great voice, and the Feminist Bible

Cons:Some essays are graphic and might come off a little strong for some people

The Bottom Line: Not just an "F" word, the feminist Bible is great for everyone-- men and women; it is a must read for all.

No one can call themselves a feminist without reading this book. It is the outline of everything the "Feminist" movement stands for, a perfect compilation of well-written essays by Gloria Steinem, a founder of Ms. Magazine. Everything from taking on Playboy, to a love song to her mother, Ruth, is combined in these pages. Other topics include the injustice women are suffering in Afghanistan, the abortion issue, the campaign trail, portraits of five misunderstood (but famous-- or infamous) women, and a lot more. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, but above all (and most importantly), it will make you think.

Every person should have to read selections from this book somewhere in their education. Some parts are better than others: ie.: "I was a Playboy Bunny", "Ruth's Song (Because she could not sing it)", the essay about Jackie Kennedy, and of course, "If men could menstruate". It gives arguments for feminism and arguments against the classic misunderstandings (ie: no feminists believe in God, all feminists hate men, etc.).

This book is a great education as to a very misunderstood part of our culture, and although at times it is graphic, you will walk away from it a fuller person-or at least, with a greater understanding as to that tempestuous woman at work, or maybe, just maybe, you will have a greater understanding of yourself: men and women alike.
