I think the only other Chuck Palahniuk book I ever finished was "Fight Club." I never really warmed up to the author, but kept giving his books a try. I would usually end up either hating the characters after a few pages or not caring at all about them - and I would put the book down and be disappointed again. I guess I am just a glutton for punishment, because I actually did finish Snuff. Unfortunately.
Snuff deals with the story of Cassie Wright, an aging porn star, who is planning on going out with a bang - the certain kind of bang that requires being serviced by 600 men. We do not exactly meet her, the story is told through the eyes of several of the participants, each identified by number. There is her male counter part who introduced her into the porn world, a young guy claiming to be Cassie's son, and her disgruntled assistant. As the story progresses, we find out that different characters have different motivations for being there, and their true back stories.
Honestly, it is a pretty boring book. One would think given the topic, it could get either pretty gross, funny, exciting , whatever. But none of that happens. The underlying plot is easy to predict in the first few chapters, and the "big reveal" is obvious sooner than half-way through. Chuck tries to shock, but fails miserably.
