| mjtriplett's Full Review: Beatrix Potter - Splash! Peter Rabbit Books |
I have no idea when or how Kid received his Splash! Peter Rabbit bath book. But ever since we discovered it in his closet, it's been a favorite bath companion.
Splash! Peter Rabbit is a padded plastic bath book that is from the Peter Rabbit Seedlings line, which is recommended for infants and toddlers ages 0-3. It has 8 pages of colorful illustrations starring Peter Rabbit and other Beatrix Potter characters. The characters splish, splash and splosh as they paddle around, play in a pond and do other fun water-related activities.
This book doesn't really have a plot. It's more like a bath toy in the form of a book. The only words are a short descriptive phrase of each character's action accompanied by big, bold and fun illustrations. For example, "Splash! goes Peter Rabbit as he jumps into the watering can," is accompanied by a picture of Peter Rabbit leaping towards a big green watering can. The fact that all the characters are doing something related to water makes it especially appropriate for a bath book.
Kid loves to read and to play in the bath, so this is the perfect book for him. At 20 months, he can easily identify the bunny, duck, frog and fish characters and enjoys splashing in the tub when I read the water sounds to him. He asks for his bath book more times than not when bathtime rolls around.
This book is very durable and fully waterproof. It's been fully submerged in our tub many times and suffered no tearing, no mildew or mold and no lasting odors. It is lightweight and floats, so it never becomes saturated to the point that it needs wringing out. It air dries quickly when set out to dry after a bath. It has thick, soft padded pages which are easy for Kid to turn and also a good source of comfort when he's teething. Kid has chewed on this book many times but I can't find any evidence of puncture marks, just light teeth impressions.
I haven't seen Splash! Peter Rabbit in stores, but you can find a copy online for between $3 and $4, well worth the cost for a cute bathtime companion.
