I came across this book in the library and purchased it for my personal library. The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich is a Wall Street Journal and New York Times best-selling guide to creating work and finance independence published in 2007. It was followed by an updated second edition in 2009. Divided into 4 sections, the book provides a mixture of case studies, personal anecdotes, helpful tips, and application exercises aimed at pursuing a life with more freedom. Beyond the main chapters, additional content includes a reading list and details on information in the companion blog. The book is currently available at Amazon and other used book retailers.

The features of the book that were particularly appealing:

Thought-Provoking Content Tim Ferriss presented wildly different methods for increasing productivity and business management than other books in his genre. Ferriss uses traditional business techniques as tools for business for personal efficiency with a unique spin on them. 

Language and Tone of the Book While it may be a turn-off for some, Ferriss uses language that is humorous, sometimes shocking but always insightful compared to other writers in his genre. He is not afraid to throw in a four letter word or satirical phrase to make his point. For me, this type of language felt more like a conversation than reading a primer on business techniques. That is what kept me reading.

Quality Web Resources Peppered throughout the book, Ferriss provides a wealth of web resources that can be of immediate assistance to a freelancer, entrepreneur, traveler or business person.

Price For the information provided in this book, the price was competitive   when it was originally released and currently.

Some of the areas of the book that  were confusing or could have used some work:

Pacing of the Book The book is very fast paced. In each chapter, Ferriss presents an opening quote, interesting anecdote and then moves right onto his message. A couple of pages later, he has moved on to another topic. Readers may want more in-depth knowledge on a particular issue.

Narrow Focus This book makes the assumption that 1) You are employed in a white-collar job with a decent wage 2) You want to leave your job 3) You love to travel. While Ferriss does reiterate that the content in his book can be personalized, the content is highly focused on Ferriss' own unique style and experiences and provides little information on how to customize it for one's own lifestyle. For example, Ferriss provides details on how to acquire a virtual assistant; however he does not cover the financial and business prequisites necessary for obtaining one.
