Arpeggios for all Guitarists
Written: Feb 27 '13
Pros:This is a good tabbed out collection of arpeggios to practice guitar.
Cons:There is a short introduction, but aside from that, this book has no commentary.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for more to put into your guitar practice, this book of arpeggios may fit the bill.
What do you play after you've mastered all your chords and scales? Arpeggios, of course. For musical beginners, an arpeggio is a chord played out note for note. I bought this book for my son, becuase lately, he is playing music by many guitarists that incorporate fast arpeggios in their playing.
The Gig Bag Book of Arpeggios for All Guitarists
This book is a tall thin book full of arpeggios. It has 240 arpeggios in all 12 keys. It is presented in standard notation and tab. The book was compiled by Mark Bridges and Joe Dineen. The book is divided up into 12 sections which are easy to find by the black markings on the edges of the pages.
The book starts with Key of C (my favorite, no sharps, no flats) You will find major arpeggios, then minor, then augmented and finally diminished. Under each subheading are a variety of arpeggios. Under C major for example is the regular C, C6, Cmajor7, C major 9.
The next 11 sections are for key of C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A# and B.
Each page has the arpeggios broken out into 4 types, each starting higher and higher on the fret board. Each has a bar of music and a bar of tab. It also tells you which finger should be placed on which notes. At the bottom of each page is a visual represenation of the fret board showing where the notes are.
All the arpeggios shown in this book are centered on the middle four strings. The author suggest you may expand your arpeggios at your option to the low E or the high E. It is also laid out for standard tuning, not Drop tunings, C standard etc. They also would not help my son with his new Schecter Omen 8 eight string guitar.
This is a book that is what it says it is. It is a collection of lots of arpeggios to practice laid out for you.
Price
I picked this up for my son at Guitar Center for $14.99. It is published by Hal Leonard Publishing. The book is spiral bound and it is a tall thin book, about 5" wide by 12" tall.
Summary
This book is a big collection of arpeggios to practice. Practicing scales, chords and apreggios will help you to improve your guitar playing. As you listen to many classic guitarists, you will realize that they olay a lot of arpeggios of one form or another. My son was pretty happy with this book and has incorporated it into his practice time.
