Praise for The Help

Written: Oct 29, 2011
Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:The topic was refreshing.  You will know you picked up a good piece of literature.
Cons:Although the ending wasn't abrupt, the story could have continued.
The Bottom Line: The Help is a well written, deeply moving book.  I promise you won't be dissapointed.

I purchased this book due to the meida buzz and good reviews the movie got thinking, "The book is always better than the movie, right?"  I was pleasantly surprised that yet again this statement proved to be true.  The book takes you back in time to an era where equality was on the brim of existence. A time when new leaders such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King were starting to make their mark in history.  The characters in The Help are well thought out and diverse, each symbolizing their own unique beliefs and having their own character flaws in the story.  Whats different abut this book is that its not written from one character's point of view, but from three.  In my opinion the author was brilliant to do this because it allows the reader to get more deeply connected to the story.  Also each character exhibits his or her own view on whether or not equality should be granted to 'the help forcing the reader to see new prospectives.  The author plays with high emotions in the reader making him or her feel anthing from love to hate for certain charcaters and anger to joy in certain situations.  This is the type of book you won't want to put down.  The Help will definitely be a book I give to my friends and family for birthdays, special occasions, and Holidays to come.
